The RHS is a national charity with a mission to inspire everyone to grow, as it is vital to our wellbeing, the environment and the happiness of us all. We are undergoing an exciting period of development, which includes bringing our work with community volunteers, schools and groups to the heart of what we do.
We are embarking on a new project - National Education Nature Park* (NENP) - a new Department for Education funded programme empowering young people to take action on the environment as part of new measures designed to put climate change at the heart of education.
Role purpose: As a key member of the National Education Park programme development team, this role will develop and deliver the communications campaign that will actively engage education institutions and young people in this exciting new nature-based programme.
The school engagement and support model for this programme focusses on facilitating and inspiring action on the education estate, to increase biodiversity and climate resilience and to encourage young people to be more engaged with nature.
By ensuring the effective communications to teachers and young people in schools across England, we aim to place our participants at the heart of the programme, to ensure it is scalable, achievable, progressive and inspiring.
Accountabilities
- To develop and deliver a scalable communications plan to drive recruitment into the programme and develop meaningful engagement with schools, education institutions and young people.
- To produce ongoing communications and marketing content for a variety of digital channels including email, social, website and newsletters that will inspire and excite schools, and coordinate ongoing engagement activities including toolkits, webinars, Q&A’s, videos and resources across a variety of online platforms.
- To devise and deliver a storytelling framework, which aims to recognise and celebrate the contributions and success stories of schools, education institutes and young people participating in the programme, and to ensure the voice of young people is heard throughout the programme.
- To support the local engagement teams working directly in schools, to engage and communicate effectively with the teacher and young people, as well as our partners and experts as the programme is piloted and scaled across England.
- To work with our monitoring and evaluation team to monitor the impact of engagement on our digital channels and use the data collected to improve and increase meaningful participation in the Nature Park programme.
- To support with the engagement of programme ambassadors, advisory groups and youth panel members, ensuring their voices have agency in the development of the programme.
- To report regularly to both internal and external partners and funders on the activity, progression, feedback and data of the Nature Park programme.
- To work with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening team to ensure we maximise and coordinate communications activities to schools and explore the opportunities for schools that are not taking part in the Nature Programme to still engage with the content and activities as part of a wider programme around biodiversity.
- To support our partnership organisations to promote the national campaign and tailor the messaging to ensure it resonates and is relevant to schools, education institutes and young people.
- Adhere to Health and Safety legislation and good practice in accordance with the Society’s Health and Safety Policy and follow instructions and co-operate at all times with your line manager to enable the RHS to meet its legal responsibilities.
- Ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of your staff and that the activities for which they are responsible do not expose anyone to risks to their health or safety. Specific areas of responsibility include: ensuring staff and volunteers are adequately supervised, trained and provided with adequate instruction and information to carry out their work safely; ensuring that RHS procedures are followed and risk assessments are carried out; and procedures are in place to deal with emergencies.
- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required in the post.
