Role & Responsibilities 

You’ll design and deliver the Outdoor Learning team’s programme of events on third-party sites. These sites are located across London including (but not limited to) the boroughs of Westminster, Southwark, Merton and Greenwich.

Working closely with the Learning and Engagement Manager, you will ensure the smooth delivery and execution of a series of pop-up events focused on outdoor family and community learning and nature engagement activities. This will include promotion, planning, delivery, data collection, evaluation and communication with external partners.

  • To plan, coordinate and deliver pop-up community engagement activities and events, including organising and management of staff cover
  • To plan and coordinate resources for the off-site events programme, including working with site staff teams to manage shared resources (such as Trust vehicles), and keeping track of expenditure
  • To regularly monitor, collate and evaluate feedback from participants, preparing information to continue to reports for funders and others
  • Accurate and timely record keeping in terms of H&S, volunteer registration and session delivery
  • To work with the marketing and communications team to ensure events are well promoted, and to maximise PR and publicity for the Trust
  • To work flexibly to ensure engagement event deliverables are met - you will work 3 days per week, with up to 4 weekend days per month
  • To liaise and work in partnership with external partners
  • To develop materials and methods for the promotion of the project, in collaboration with London Wildlife Trust and other partners
  • To develop local media contacts and secure media coverage where possible
  • To represent the Trust at relevant local meetings and partnerships, ensuring that the Trust gets maximum benefit from this

What’s in it for you?

Salary:        £26,538 (£15,923 working 3 days per week)

Tenure:       Fixed term contract ending 31st March 2024

Location:      The role is based at Centre for Wildlife Gardening, though delivery of events will be across London, zones 1-3. Attending meetings or training at other Trust sites as and when required will be necessary (any travel in London outside zones 1-3 will be claimable as travel expenses)

Our ideal Engagement Officer:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a face-to-face engagement role with the public
  • Experience of working with children and families in an outdoor setting
  • Experience of leading environmental education sessions for children or young people
  • Understanding of safeguarding and health and safety legislation, including associated welfare issues
  • Customer-centred approach with strong interpersonal skills
