Job description
Are you an effective communicator and relationship-builder? Do you have a passion for different cultures and an interest in advocating for museums and STEM?
About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is an ambitious organisation that is open for all. We work with many people and organisations around the world to deliver projects and programmes, advocate for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and its role in people’s lives, and to promote the Group’s activities.
To support this work in actively developing and sustaining relationships between SMG and key stakeholders in the UK and overseas, we are now looking for an International Engagement Manager to join us on a 12-month fixed-term basis at the Science Museum in London.
About the role
SMG’s Global Engagement team are working with more partners in more countries than ever before. As International Engagement Manager, you will build and maintain strong relationships with our partners across the world, with a specific focus on broadening our reach across India. You will ensure that all the key players are included and seek new opportunities, and you’ll use your initiative to identify and initiate new contacts, opportunities and resources to further SMG projects and objectives. You will be an active advocate for SMG’s work in and with India and other regions as required; which will require international travel, and includes the management of introductions, itineraries and aftercare for key SMG stakeholders.
This role gives you the opportunity to get involved in a variety of fascinating projects in fast-moving departments, all of which are at the forefront of Science Museum’s ambitious plans.
About you
Relationship building and management skills will be key to this role, along with associated skills such as good communication, diplomacy and negotiation. Ideally, you will hold knowledge and experience of India, its culture (in both the general sense and the cultural and creative sector) and/or the policy and political scene and/or the science and innovation sector. However, a broader background and readiness to learn and apply new skills will be considered as the role is not exclusively India-focused.
Don’t feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn’t match perfectly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
What we offer
Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; a support with personal and professional development; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; and enhanced support for things that happen in life such as parental and adoption leave, sickness and career breaks.
‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.
We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
