You will be an integral part of our award-winning team, who are dedicated to helping social enterprises, charities and community organisations secure the affordable, flexible loans and other social investment they need to sustain and grow their social impact.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and socially minded person with experience in lending or grant-making and business development to join our brilliant team. Experience of social investment is desirable but not essential if you can demonstrate strategic analysis in lending/grant-making too small to medium sized organisations.
The purpose of this role is to drive, develop and execute Venturesome’s work of providing risk capital and advice to charities and social enterprises – leading to an increase in social investment deals, and a stronger portfolio. You will take on the responsibility of overseeing Venturesome’s business development activities to generate more applications for social investment.

As our Investment Manager, Venturesome your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the Venturesome team’s business development activities across CAF and the wider social investment sector. Support the Senior Development Manager with reporting social impact and marketing CAF’s social investment offering through the CAF Marketing and Communications Teams
- Review applications from, provide advice to, charities, social enterprises and community groups in relation to social investment
- Conduct due diligence on new applicants for social investment, write reports to the Impact Committee recommending the amount and terms of a social investment; ensuring financial risk and social impact are balanced appropriately
- Monitor a proportion of Venturesome’s portfolio of social investments
- Support the strategic development and growth of Venturesome as an innovative way of providing financial support and advice
- Support the development of Venturesome’s capabilities and operating efficiency by identifying opportunities for process improvements and overseeing the development of solutions.
- Contribute to Venturesome’s ‘action-learning’, and to our publication of such learning
- Build and maintain key relationships within CAF and externally
Skills required of our Investment Manager, Venturesome:
- Understanding the lending process – experience working within a lending, investing or grantmaking operation
- Communication – to promote the work of Venturesome to a wide range of audiences
- General appraisal skills – strategic and financial – analysis of applicants’ strategy and financial position, in order to determine appropriate financing and the role (if any) to be played by Venturesome
- Financial analysis – knowledge and practical experience of interpreting financial information (e.g. balance sheets, profit & loss etc.)
- People skills – ability to work with a wide range of people: in charities and social enterprises, in social investment circles and with potential funders
- Process improvement skills – the ability to identify and champion potential process improvements that will result in improved customer service and product.
- Commitment and motivation – to help build Venturesome’s role in building the capacity of small and medium sized charities and in developing the social investment market
