Job summary:

As part of the Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing (GIS&RS) team within the ClimateProjects Unit, you will support the ongoing development and improvement of our digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems. 

This includes working with different databases, preprocessing spatial data, producing training and validation datasets, and applying geospatial and AI methodologies. By supporting the GIS&RS process, you will motivate strategic and critical thinking in your professional career, strengthen your competencies in areas such as remote sensing and GIS and contribute to the company's business goals. 

The internship will be for 6 months, starting in April, depending on agreement.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Learn the current status and roadmap of GIS and remote sensing South Pole and become familiar with the GIS tools developed
  • Catalog, collect, and organize the datasets in cloud storage
  • Ensure the accuracy of datasets (i.e. missing polygons, Source, expiration dates, etc)
  • Support the development of all the requirements related to GIS& RS which will be defined jointly with the GIS&RS manager, could include Initial Projects Assessment for Latam areas component MRV processes
  • Update the documentation and presentation of standard operating procedures of the internal model's portfolio
  • Work in a team setting with other staff members to identify effective ways to complete various planning projects and outreach efforts

Requirements:

Essential -

  • University degree in Forestry Engineer, Environmental Science, or similar
  • Good knowledge of geospatial information systems and analytical tools and the ability to rapidly expanding of knowledge
  • GIS and remote sensing analytical skills using open-source software (QGIS) for image processing and analysis
  • Effective communication, well-developed oral and writing skills in English
  • Knowledge of Forest mapping and monitoring Knowledge of REDD+ mapping using GIS required
  • Highly organized with the ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to work, determine and develop independently their approach to a solution

Desirable -

  • Experience with programming and Cloud environments and familiarity with machine learning
  • Knowledge of forest carbon and carbon standards like VERRA, CDM, and Plan Vivo among others
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including prioritizing and working efficiently and effectively under deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with initiative, and a strong capacity to work in an intercultural team
  • Fundamental understanding of Python and its frameworks.
