Introduction to the role
The Rights Manager will sell film, television and theatrical rights to HarperCollinsâ books. You will report to the Group Rights Director, and will be fully embedded with the rights department, as well as working with our publishing divisions. You will represent us and our authors across the theatrical, broadcast and streaming industry, making deals on those books in which we control the rights as well as representing the broader list to help more of our books reach screens. This will be a stimulating next step in selling media rights across a broad range of content for someone currently working at an agency, publisher, or production company.
Key tasks and accountabilities
Identify development opportunities across both frontlist and backlist titles
Meet customers across the industry both in the UK and internationally
Develop sales materials for our books
Negotiate deals, draft/vet contracts
Attend divisional acquisitions and other meetings to stay up to date on our publishing, give input on potential for development on proposed and existing projects, feedback on trends in the media industry, helping to inform our acquisitions and development of our own IP projects
Work with Group Rights Director to support the relationship with 3000 Pictures
Work with authors and agents
Maintain database of film, tv and theatrical rights held
Maintain database of books in development and details of options granted
Skills required
Understanding of options and purchase agreements, and ideally experience of negotiating them
Commercially astute
Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally.
