What does a Director of Content Operations do at Busuu?

This is a new role, sitting within Busuu’s Education Team and reporting to the VP of Learning Design and Content Operations. This role will own all content operations related to educational content, digital media assets, and localisation (including localisation of product and marketing content) across our internal and external teams. The overarching aim will be to maximise our localisation and media capabilities in support of content development, and ensure excellent ROI on department vendor spend. In addition this role is responsible for optimising the content development, localisation, and media asset workflows, ensuring governance of our quality standards and managing our external vendors across the department (e.g. content writers, translators, proofreaders, voice artists). This is a huge opportunity to overhaul and supercharge our existing content production processes across the team with an opportunity to shape the future of our business.

What you will be doing:

  • Drive the execution of our ambitious content delivery programs, ensuring we balance quantity with quality, in order to meet our business objectives and deliver strong ROI
  • Work closely with our B2C and B2B learning design teams to iterate our localisation and digital media processes, enabling our content teams to create content at scale
  • Line manage our localisation and media assets management teams
  • Analyse and critique our current workflows to identify improvements and changes
  • Identify and propose opportunities to outsource or automate parts of our media sourcing, localisation or content development processes
  • Lead on managing outsourcing suppliers and negotiating new vendor contracts
  • Work with our engineering and product teams to drive development of our in-house content management platform, ensuring that it meets the needs of our globally dispersed team of learning designers, materials writers, translators and proofreaders
  • Work with our engineering and product teams to streamline our localisation and digital media management tooling - including leading on localisation workflow integrations, digital assets management tool implementation, and reworking our processes to best use these technologies
  • Oversee and optimise onboarding and training of new team members in our tools and processes, and ensure continuing alignment across teams

What we’re looking for in a Director of Content Operations at Busuu

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years or equivalent) of managing complex delivery processes involving outsourced suppliers to deliver content or product at scale (experience of leading localisation teams is an advantage)
  • Deep experience working cross-functionally with agile product teams
  • Experience of using various resourcing models to scale production, both in-house and outsourced
  • Ability to balance big-picture thinking with close attention to detail and a passion for optimising processes
  • Confident using multiple localisation tools and content management systems
  • Experience with technical integrations such as git connectors or API-based push/pull data transfers with translation management systems such as XTM and Crowdin
  • Confident with analytics tools such as Amplitude or Tableau and clear ability and enthusiasm for using data to drive decision making
  • Able to create compelling business cases and present them to senior leadership.
  • Comfortable driving large, complex projects with third-party technical integrations
  • Capable of managing a multitude of stakeholders and competing interests. Adept at building consensus
  • Familiarity integrating a digital assets management (DAM) system into an existing workflow is an advantage
  • Fluent in English with a working knowledge of a second language
