Battersea is a famous animal rescue charity established in 1860, helping thousands of animals each year across three centres. We are looking for an Expert Advisor for the Governance Group overseeing a new Cattery facility at our Old Windsor centre. As a voluntary role, you will provide advice, oversee planning, and attend bi-monthly meetings (mostly online), with potential for some site visits.

Role Summary: - Join as an Expert Advisor on a voluntary basis. - Provide governance, advice, and oversight for the construction of a new Cattery facility at Battersea Old Windsor. - Attend bi-monthly governance group meetings and occasional site visits.

Role Requirements: - You should be a RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor with experience in large-scale projects. - You should have skills in relationship management, site surveying and inspection, and project governance. - Experience in preparing tenders, contractor selection, identifying financial risks, and providing financial and procurement advice is desirable.

No financial benefits are associated with this role, but contributing to a significant charity project offers personal and professional satisfaction.

Battersea is one of the oldest and best-known charities in the world, founded in 1860 by Mary Tealby, a pioneer of animal welfare and rescue. Our mission is to never turn away an animal in need of our help, a promise we keep to this day. Every year, we assist around 5,000 dogs and cats across our three centres in London, Old Windsor, and Brands Hatch, and support tens of thousands more beyond our gates.

The role: We are seeking an Expert Advisor to join the Governance Group overseeing the construction of a new purpose-built Cattery facility at our Battersea Old Windsor location. This new building, spanning approximately 500-600m2, will replace our existing Cattery, enhancing customer experience and providing additional space and facilities for our animals, staff, and volunteers. This voluntary position involves providing advice, oversight, and governance for the planning and rebuilding of this facility. The role does not carry trustee liabilities. The successful candidate will need to attend bi-monthly governance group meetings, with occasional ad-hoc requests for additional support, especially during key decision-making points in the strategy planning and implementation of the cattery build. Most meetings will be online, with some site visits to Battersea Old Windsor.

Job requirements: We are looking for a RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor with substantial experience in large-scale, complex projects. The candidate should have experience in cost management services for all project stages, from inception through to design and build, and possess up-to-date technical knowledge of Health & Safety legislation. Skills in relationship management, site surveying and inspection, and project governance are essential. Experience in preparing tenders, contractor selection, identifying financial risks, and providing financial and procurement advice to clients and project stakeholders is also required.

Benefits: As this is a voluntary position, there are no financial benefits associated with the role. However, the opportunity to contribute to a significant project at a renowned charity may provide personal and professional satisfaction.
