MacArthur Green is a small, independent environmental consultancy, seeking a GIS Technician to join our team. We specialise in providing ecology and ornithology consultancy services to large-scale renewable projects such as onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as natural capital schemes and grid network projects.
At MacArthur Green, our mission is to make a positive impact on the environment through our three core business objectives: supporting projects with important environmental benefits, contributing to research projects, and operating as a biodiversity positive, carbon conscious business. As a GIS Technician, you will play a crucial role in achieving these objectives, working in a friendly and supportive team.
We value diversity and inclusivity, and want to grow our team with a range of perspectives and strengths. We are small enough to work collaboratively and hear everyone’s ideas, and we’re big enough to work on meaningful projects, with some of the best clients in the environmental sector (we may be biased…).
We are keen to consider candidates for both full-time and part-time working. We are also well set up to support hybrid working, reduced hours or compressed hours working. No two people need the same kind of flexibility, and we are keen to work with you to understand what you need so we can balance that with what our team needs, and hopefully arrive at an arrangement that works for everyone!
Responsibilities
- Provide GIS support to our ecology, ornithology and peat teams
- Survey map production and general survey preparation
- Processing and managing field data
- Producing report maps and tables
- Setting up and maintaining Mobile Data Capture (MDC) devices for field surveys
- Supporting members of the team in data analysis, which may include formatting/editing excel spreadsheets, uploading/downloading data to/from processing software
- Database and data management
- Maintain professional and proactive communication with team members, clients and any other third parties.
Qualifications & Experience
If you are eager to learn and you meet most (but not necessarily all) of these requirements, we would like to hear from you:
- Experience of ESRI’s suite of GIS software including ArcMap, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro
- Experience in Mobile Data Capture and Open Source GIS packages (including QGIS)
- Workplace experience (consultancy or public sector)
- Effective communication, visual communication and analytical skills
- Proactive and flexible approach to work
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Bachelor's degree in Geography (covering GIS), Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Data Analysis, Geoinformation & Cartography or a related field
