About us:

We’re here to make money work for everyone and we're doing things differently. For too long, banking has been obtuse, complex and opaque.

We want to change that and build a bank with everyone, for everyone. Our amazing community suggests features, tests the app and gives us constant feedback so we can build something everyone loves.

We're focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products. We want to make the world a better place and change people's lives through Monzo.

About the role:

This role will report directly into the Group CFO. In this role you will be leading many aspects of strategic finance within the wider Monzo Group. You will work closely with the senior leadership team and the CFO to help finalise our equity story, develop deep short and long term plans and prepare our business for a potential IPO. Acting as a key advisor and leader within the team and the company, you will also have the opportunity to deputise for the CFO in all commercial areas when necessary. We are looking for a strategic thinker with a strong commercial acumen, and a track record of driving business growth.

A key responsibility of this role will be to help develop the plan along with a world-class financial planning and strategy function. You will take ownership of all forecasting activities, from systems implementation to making sure we have solid commercial grounding for our ambitious goals.

Building and maintaining strong relationships will be a critical aspect of this role. You will engage with the board, audit committee, banks, auditors, regulators, advisors, and other key stakeholders.

You will work closely with revenue-generating areas across Monzo to manage the growth of our cost base and give advice and analysis on international expansion and growth strategy.

Your day-to-day

  • Helping to develop and execute a world-class financial plan and strategy; owning everything from forecasting to implementing systems that help ground our ambitions in solid commercials
  • Partnering closely with senior stakeholders to make sure Monzo hits our strategic milestones
  • Being a strong Commercial Business Partner to Monzo’s revenue generating departments and managing the growth of our cost base
  • Translating financial data into actionable insights and operating plans to support key stakeholders in driving the business forward
  • Building and coaching a team to develop accurate and insightful analyses, fostering a culture of integrity and supportive challenge
  • Offering advice and analysis on international expansion and growth strategy
  • Collaborating with teams across Monzo on major company initiatives including business model evaluation, cost-saving opportunities, vendor selection & negotiation, and operational efficiency
  • Working alongside the senior leadership team to help prepare the business for potential IPO
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the board and audit committee as well as banks, auditors, regulators, advisors, and other key stakeholders
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Finance team, including designing the team to scale effectively

You should apply if you have:

  • Significant experience at FP&A/Commercial Director level or equivalent ideally in a regulated industry (experience working in banking and/or a fast growing tech company would be a huge plus!)
  • Experience of managing business performance across multiple geographies and supporting international expansion
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across a range of functions
  • The ability to identify opportunities for growth and improvement and anticipate challenges early
  • A forward-looking approach where your strategic insights and guidance go beyond traditional FP&A
  • A demonstrated ability to create value and lead decision making in ambitious, entrepreneurial, and high-pace environments
  • The ability to work with big data sets and rapidly translate results into meaningful analysis incorporated into forecasts
  • The ability to achieve results by taking the initiative, setting lofty but realistic goals and holding Monzo accountable to execution
  • The ability to work with a high level of accuracy and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced, high pressure environment
  • Strong coaching skills with the ability to provide empathy and guidance to the other members of the finance team
