About You

You are no stranger to BizDev & Sales and have loved working on both strategic partnerships in your career, as well as on sizable commercial deals.

Further, you understand how to think about the operational needs of a BizDev & Sales organization and are someone who enjoys adding value by implementing smart and efficiency-driving operational improvements.

You also have some experience with managing large and complex partnerships and know what it takes to truly empathize with the goals partners while knowing how to collaborate to adjust these expectations with practical realities of available resources.

And finally, you’re excited about the opportunity to put this all together and add value across all four of these functional areas: BizDev, sales (aka sponsorships), operations and account management in a unique cross-functional role on a highly successful and growing team that works on a lot of interesting deals across several very large ecosystems (sports, gaming, consumer tech, etc.).


What You’ll Do

Collaborate extensively on a comprehensive portfolio of significant and intricate partnerships and agreements. In certain instances, take charge of the deal, while more frequently providing guidance and co-leading the execution. Establish yourself as a reliable asset to every member of the business development organization, with the aim of exponentially speeding up our team's mission to expand and elevate the game of Chess.

Deliver value as a specialist, executor and leader on the Chess.com BizDev & Sales team: adding value across the following four functional areas:

  • BizDev (aka strategic partnerships)
  • Sales (aka sponsorships)
  • Operations
  • Partnership Account Management


Preferred Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in Sales & BizDev, including experience:
  • Closing complex BizDev deals, ideally with consumer platforms and involving content creation and/or audience sharing with the goal of driving consumer platform user growth
  • Closing mid-six and ideally seven-figure sales deals, preferably event-based “sponsorship” selling
  • Managing Sales/BizDev accounts post-close (preferred)
  • Entrepreneurial experience - scaling a business, preferably consumer
  • Experience and familiarity with gaming ecosystem a big plus
  • Experience and familiarity with sports sponsorship ecosystem a plus
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Chess player (preferable)
  • Lifelong learner
