The Role:
As the Chief of Staff to our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you’ll be at the centre of our engineering, data and security world at Monzo, a team of around 500 people. You will be part of the CTO Office, the CTO’s leadership team that includes our engineering directors, VP Engineering, VP Data, and our Chief Information Security Officer. You’ll also work closely with the Chief of Staff to our Chief Product Officer and their team. You will work alongside our leadership team to support the delivery of critical projects and shape strategic initiatives. As Chief of Staff, you’ll get visibility across the company and the broader world of investors, government, the financial sector and our user community that our executive team engages with.
What you’ll work on:
- Helping shape strategic projects and running them
- Overseeing CTO Office operations alongside our Finance and Risk partners, including planning, budget forecasts and actuals, and governance
- Staying close to data on our performance, understanding the underlying drivers, creating a regular cadence for reporting, and identifying and leading transformation initiatives
- Working closely with our People and Hiring Partners to drive performance, engagement, diversity and hiring across the Tech group, and help support their initiatives
- Collaborating with people across the company to drive impact and help unblock complex challenges.
- Ensuring that the CTO is well prepared for meetings and interactions with regulators, investors, journalists, board members, and employee forums.
- Preparing and disseminating major communications.
- Representing the CTO to the organisation and in key forums.
You should apply if you are:
- Someone who has a track record of driving outcomes in environments where influence and consensus building are critical.
- Experienced in the tech sector or working in a regulated environment.
- Passionate about building and enabling diverse, inclusive and high performing teams.
- Highly analytical and quantitative - you should be comfortable with spreadsheets, Looker, and analytics tools.
- A problem-solver who has demonstrated being able to take an idea from 0 to 1
- Great at stakeholder management and able to thoughtfully and constructively challenge the people you work with.
- Experienced with budget management and comfortable with reading financial statements.
- A curious, skilled multi-tasker who enjoys context switching and can balance depth and breadth.
- Organised, detail-oriented and thorough.
- A strong project manager, always seeking to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- An excellent communicator.

- Experience in a financial services environment.
The interview process:
Our interview process involves 3 main stages:
- A 30 min intro with a member of our recruitment team.
- A 1 hour call with our current Chief of Staff, and a member of our senior leadership team. This will be questions specific to your role and skillset.
- A 1 hour Values interview. This will be with our People Partner for engineering, and another member of the team to assess fit with Monzo values.
- A final 1 hour with our CTO, Matej Pfajar.
At all stages we’ll create space for you to ask as many questions as you have. You’re interviewing us as well!
Our average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability.
