DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

Since 2000, more than 5 million people and partners have contributed $1 billion to support 2 million teacher requests for classroom resources and experiences. Projects range from art supplies to build the set for a school musical, to books and puzzles that affirm students’ identities, to bird seed for an at-home science project. We proudly serve all US public schools, public charter schools, and Head Start centers, and we combat systemic inequity by driving a majority of donations to schools that have been historically underfunded due to economic and racial inequity.

DonorsChoose has been recognized as a best place to work by GOOD Magazine and the Nonprofit Times, while Fast Company named DonorsChoose one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World—the first time a charity has made this list. Our dedicated team works from across the United States bring classroom dreams to life.

About the People & Talent Team

The People and Talent team strives to make DonorsChoose the best nonprofit to work for, respected internally and externally for delivering a best-in-class people experience and cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and mission-driven team. We work to ensure our staff can remain laser-focused on advancing the DonorsChoose mission by delivering a positive, productive, safe, and equitable employee lifecycle experience. Ultimately, we want our number one draw for talent to be that there is no better place they could work to do more for teachers and students in public education.

About the Role

The Senior Recruiter reports to Senior Manager, Talent, and is an integral member of the People & Talent team. As DonorsChoose undergoes a multi-year strategic plan for the first time in organizational history, we are growing our headcount to support our ambitious goals, all the while maintaining impeccable hiring standards to fit with our unique, mission-driven work culture. You’ll be responsible for owning, maintaining, and improving our talent acquisition processes and systems- particularly around technical & executive recruiting- as well as sourcing candidates, reporting on pipeline metrics, branding, and keeping recruiting and documentation/training programs up-to-date. We are eager to find a senior recruiter who can build deep relationships across multiple teams and establish trust with hiring managers to bring on board new team members, and- in partnership with the rest of the People & Talent team, help us grow DonorsChoose’s employer brand.

In the first 6 months of the role, you will:

  • Lead talent acquisition process from end-to-end, including tracking and meeting hiring and DEI related KPIs, training hiring managers on recruiting processes, while maintaining DonorsChoose’s high hiring standards
  • Own searches for positions at all levels, from entry-level to executive, particularly in areas encompassing software/product engineering, product design, marketing, customer success, and business development
  • Manage the hiring process from start to finish, in partnership with internal hiring managers: updating and posting jobs, screen resumes, source candidates, perform first calls, and ensure all stages of the recruiting process are being followed and running smoothly to drive an effective process
  • Manage DonorsChoose’s current recruiting platforms & applicant tracking system (we currently use Greenhouse); establish and track candidate experience as top priority
  • Learn how the People & Talent team works to cultivate and manage relationships across an array of teams and hiring managers

Beyond 6 months, you will:

  • Continue to act on the priorities above and proactively source candidates using LinkedIn Recruiter, and other key eternal relationships and partnerships, including career development platforms
  • Thought partner with Senior Manager, Talent and People to establish, maintain, and analyze the efficacy of external relationships with third party recruiting partnerships
  • Leverage data to identify gaps, patterns, and opportunities within our hiring process to develop solutions to achieve hiring outcomes
  • Champion DonorsChoose’s employer brand by partnering effectively with internal teams (People & Talent, Marketing, etc.) to build recruiting strategy for open roles, and identifying external opportunities to drive brand awareness

This role may be perfect for you if you:

  • Have 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience in high-volume environments, including at least 2 years of technical recruiting in software/product engineering, product design and marketing.
  • Are committed to our mission to support public school teachers and students and address educational inequity, and are energized by sharing that passion with potential new teammates.
  • Understand and can speak to applicant tracking systems and hiring process best practices.
  • Have a proven track record of working with data and using self-generated metrics and analyses to drive results.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Are comfortable with rapidly shifting, competing priorities and influencing without hierarchical authority.
  • Are passionate about creating, enhancing, and growing a strong and engaging company culture rooted in diverse lived experiences.
  • Actively participate and seek out experiences that push your perspective along our DEI outcomes.
  • Are a builder of long-term relationships, value perspectives and lived experiences across lines of difference, and are excited to facilitate a best-in-class hiring manager & candidate experience with long term impact in mind.
