Job Overview:
The Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager will report to the Director of Revenue. This position's primary role is to manage the efficient operation of their AR team(s), ensuring timely and accurate recording and collection of outstanding payments. The AR Manager will monitor collections to meet company goals on a monthly basis and actively participate in relevant monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting close processes.
The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, strong interpersonal skills, excellent English verbal and written communication skills, commitment to meet deadlines, proficiency in following procedures accurately, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. This individual must be capable of managing people and thriving as part of a large, dynamic team.
As a valued member of the finance team, the AR Manager will have broad exposure to various functions at Coursera, including customer experience, implementations, sales, and legal. This role also entails interacting with internal and external auditors. Responsibilities:
- Manage and optimize the AR team, ensuring timely and accurate billing, cash application, and collections processes while maintaining compliance with company policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain credit policies and controls, including risk assessment and credit analysis.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, customer experience, implementations, sales, legal, and auditors.
- Partner with the sales team and customer success management team to provide invoice schedule approvals, resolve issues, and invoice disputes.
- Monitor KPIs, present AR performance results to accounting and finance leadership, prepare AR aging reports, propose action plans for overdue accounts, assist with financial disclosures, and complete month-end close procedures.
- Drive continuous process improvement to enhance team’s efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Finance related field, with a preference for candidates with a professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent) and at least 5 years of AR experience, including team management.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP specific to AR, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for developing professional relationships.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Proven experience in managing a remote team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience in analyzing processes, implementing improvements, and promoting system efficiency to reduce manual work and to improve operational efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively with cross-functional teams, collaborating with individuals at all levels of the organization.
