Role Summary

Driving for Change is a ground-breaking initiative run by the Change Please Foundation. We take repurposed iconic London double decker buses to key London Boroughs to provide lifesaving and essential services to the most vulnerable. The services our guests have access to include an NHS and oral healthcare nurses, a hairdresser, social support, digital and financial literacy training and inclusion, financial advice, support with employment and much more. We have helped so many people through Driving for Change and had great success stories with our guests getting access to the vital help they needed, and then some joining the core Barista Training Programme and securing permanent work through our employment partners.

The role: The Hairdresser / Barber provides basic hairdressing services to individuals experiencing homelessness, delivering support in our Driving for Change buses across various London locations. The Hairdresser / Barber will use their skills to help restore dignity, confidence, and a sense of self-worth to clients in need. This role requires adaptability, empathy, and the ability to work in an unconventional setting alongside service support workers and other professionals. By creating a welcoming and supportive environment, the Hairdresser / Barber will contribute positively to the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals, helping them feel valued and respected as part of Change Please’s mission to deliver impactful community services.

Job requirements: Relevant qualification in hairdressing. Appropriate insurance coverage (e.g., Public Liability Insurance). Ability to stand for long periods and handle physical demands of the role. Strong organisational and time management skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and follow instructions. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Patience, attention to detail, and a client-centred approach.

Benefits: The role offers a competitive hourly rate of £13.85 and the opportunity to work in a unique, impactful environment. The work schedule is flexible, ranging from 16 to 30 hours weekly, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
