Job summary:
South Pole is looking for an (associate) consultant to play a key role in international consultancy mandates, assignments and proposals. South Pole’s Climate Policy, Finance and Carbon Market team sits in the Climate Projects business line and provides advice on international, regional and national climate policies, carbon market governance and regulations and carbon monetisation efforts, including methodology innovation. The team works on public and private consultancy assignments for clients. It also provides policy insights and market intelligence to various teams within South Pole
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality consultancy assignments and support in developing proposals related to climate policy, voluntary carbon standards, Article 6 policy framework, and monetisation strategies, among others. You will focus in particular on assignments relating to market governance and methodology development.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Support existing and new methodology development assignments while also evaluating new areas, project types and technologies for which methodology development may be feasible, as per South Pole Strategy
- Support technical content for proposals and support advisory assignments for corporate and public sector clients on topics such as carbon market instruments, Article 6, carbon monetisation strategies, etc
- Contribute to product development for the company’s offering on sourcing, methodology development and developing Article 6 mitigation activities in coordination with other business lines
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities and expand skills and knowledge linked to the topics and services offered by South Pole
- Contribute to the development of South Pole’s thought leadership activities, services, products, marketing materials and offerings
Requirements:
Essential -
- University degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field
- Relevant knowledge of international climate policy and carbon markets, including the voluntary carbon market and compliance markets
- Experience in the development of carbon projects or audit or methodology development under various voluntary carbon standards such as CDM, Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, Global Carbon Council, etc
- Relevant work experience working in the field of climate change or sustainability
- Excellent project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide project teams in a multi-cultural and multi-geography context
- Excellent writing skills, with proven expertise in creating and reviewing high-quality written documents (proposals and deliverables)
- Autonomous and proactive, yet strong ability to work collaboratively
- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
- Excellent working knowledge of all Google Suite applications and MS products (Word, Excel)
- Excellent oral and written skills in English
Desirable -
- Experience in the development of methodology under a carbon standard
- Knowledge of upcoming technologies in the carbon market such as CCS, CCUS, green hydrogen, etc
- Experience in stakeholder and client management
