Our Portfolio Management team oversees and develops business for the sale and trading of carbon credits and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). By working collaboratively with both our internal Sales and Projects teams, we play a crucial role in balancing the demand and supply of certificates, in order to best match the needs of our clients with our sourcing capabilities. Job summary:
The Specialist position on the Project Development Coordination team is responsible for supporting the coordination between Carbon Project Managers (PMs) and Carbon standards/registries to process carbon projects through all development stages until credit issuance. The Specialist is also responsible for improving overall communication and information flow between Portfolio and PMs.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Carbon Project Development Cycle Support
- Support coordination with carbon standards on the project development steps required from registration to credit issuance
- Submission of all reports required for projects needed to register, validate, and verify the project
- Coordination and follow up of project review deadliness
- Placing Issuance as requested by Registries teams
- Managing and approving all invoice payment to standards and platforms with Accounting including registration t and issuance fees
- Ongoing coordination between carbon standards and PMs
- Be the key point of contact between the carbon standards and South Pole’s portfolio of projects in regards to carbon project development
- Manage accounting and legal challenges as necessary
- Support coordination with carbon standards on the project development steps required from registration to credit issuance
- Portfolio point of contact for project issuance information
- Ad-hoc follow up on specific projects with PMs regarding issuance timeline and expected volume
- Adding project updates to iMOT (portfolio tool)
- Providing a high-level regional view of issuance timelines and challenges
- Monthly calls with PDME (Project Design Monitoring & Evaluation) and Project Account Managers on:
- Market demands
- Upcoming deliveries
- Future sales
- Critical projects and issuances
- Challenges in the regions
- Policy updates
- Technical development
- Feedback to PMs for relevant sales and market demand information
- Sales successes - especially for priority projects
- Signed contracts for future delivery especially for unissued credits
- Demand signals for products from specific regions or technology
- Any other information to further improve communication between portfolio and Climate Projects activities
Requirements:
Essential -
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Experience working directly with third party carbon standards (Gold Standard, Verra, CDM)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Comfortable working in a nascent team where tasks and priorities that will evolve over time
- Comfortable in leading the strategic direction for a team to continuously increase efficiency and effectiveness of the Portfolio team
- Experience aggregating and processing diverse types information across various teams into actionable tasks and procedures
- Comfortable working in an international position that works with teams across all regions and time zones
Desirable -
- Self-motivated and able to work asynchronously with team members
- Finds fulfillment in collaborating with and building relationships with peers
- Familiarity with carbon project development process
- Commercial understanding of carbon sales
- Familiarity with legal agreements
- Familiarity with accounting arrangements and invoicing procedures
- Experience managing direct reporting lines
