The role:

This role will be focused on reviewing Financial Promotions and will work closely with the Risk & Control Discipline (RCD) team and the entire marketing team. The RCD team is the 1st line of Defence Risk Management team. It’s made up of risk & control managers, and conduct & compliance experts. 

The Marketing team works with our product teams to support Monzo’s customer growth, brand and reputation and you will play an integral part in protecting these. 

You will use your knowledge of financial promotions regulations and broader conduct and compliance requirements to ensure that our teams can ship best in class financial promotions quickly, compliantly and aligned with Monzo’s tone of voice. 

You will lead the way in making sure Monzo’s marketing materials are compliant with FCA and ASA rules and regulations, and make sure the approvals process is running smoothly. You will develop training materials for new product launches, and keep up with developments in the financial promotions regulatory space so you can share your knowledge & expertise across Monzo ensuring compliance is a top priority.

We will also need you to lean in and help on the risk & control area of the team as required.  This means supporting and embedding the risk management framework in our Growth and Marketing team by creating MI packs, supporting with risk assessments and completing control testing to identify shortcomings and create appropriate remediation plans with the control owners. Flexibility is a must. 

Your day-to-day   

In the financial promotions space you will:

  • Oversee the review and approval of financial promotions across Monzo’s product suite to make sure they are compliant with FCA and ASA rules and regulations
  • Review and approve claims about Monzo’s products to make sure they are clear, fair, and not misleading and adequately substantiated.
  • Be responsible for following Monzo’s financial promotions internal processes. 
  • Identify improvements in the financial promotions and claims approval processes to make them more efficient.
  • Create training materials for financial promotions relating to new product launches. And keeping existing materials up to date with regulatory developments in the financial promotions space.

In the risk management space you may be asked to support with:

  • Identifying, assessing, managing and reporting on risks related to the Growth and Marketing teams. 
  • Testing marketing controls for both design and operating effectiveness and identifying failures and improvements.
  • Preparing risk & governance MI packs 
  • Drafting updates to risk committees or responding to regulatory requests.

You should apply if:

  • You have worked in the FCA, a UK bank, fintech or insurer and have been responsible for reviewing financial promotions to make sure they are compliant with relevant rules and regulations.
  • You have in-depth knowledge and hands-on regulatory experience on financial promotions rules relevant to borrowing (loans, overdrafts, mortgages, buy-now-pay-later) and/or investments and/or insurance products.
  • You have some understanding of industry risk standards and practices. For example, you’ve been involved in control testing or writing a risk and control self-assessment if not necessarily owning them end to end.
  • You have excellent attention to detail and can manage multiple competing deadlines.
  • You like finding novel solutions to problems and enjoy constantly learning.
  • You’re resilient, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast paced and ambiguous environment where the day to day job is constantly evolving and changing.

The Interview Process:

Our interview process involves 3 main stages: 

  • Short call with a Monzo Recruiter 
  • Video-call with the Hiring Manager (30 mins)
  • 2 x 45 minute competency-based interviews conducted via Google Meet
