The Eden Project is an educational charity and social enterprise. Our global mission is to create a movement that builds relationships between people and the natural world to demonstrate the power of working together for the benefit of all living things.
We’re at an incredibly exciting point in our story right now, which is why this new post of Director of Philanthropy is so important. In response to the planetary emergency we have big ambitions – there has never been a more important time for people to appreciate and look after our planet and each other, and we’re creating connections at our Cornish home, across the UK and internationally. Our ambitious plans require new sources of support: in particular, major donors and legacies to sit alongside our current funders such as trusts and foundations and the Lottery.
Our leadership team is driving a new and ambitious strategy and we aim to make good on our promise to change the world; as Eden’s Director of Philanthropy, you will be an integral part of our team and sustainable growth strategy.
The Role
Our new Director of Philanthropy will take the lead in shaping and building that capability as we look to raise more funds in the next five years than we have raised in the first two decades of Eden’s life.
As an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will provide strategic leadership for high value, relationship-based fundraising. Within the portfolio of fundraising objectives is the £50m required to realise Eden Project Morecambe. You will be responsible for building on the work done to date, refining the core cases for support, extending the network of potential donors, leading to the launch of a major fundraising campaign.
Key requirements
- Senior manager with a proven track record including a minimum of 10-years’ experience in securing major donations and the effective management of relationships with high-net-worth individuals
- Extensive relationship building skills with a niche audience and strong theoretical knowledge on how to cultivate these relationships to encourage philanthropic giving at the highest level
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills
- Experience of working with a CRM system to export and manipulate complex data sets, segment audiences effectively and develop a CRM strategy
- Solid understanding of the legal, regulatory and ethical environment of fundraising including Data Protection and Gift Aid is essential
