Short consultancy for Agri-Food GHG Emissions Advice
Background
Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused not-for-profit, promoting large-scale investment in the low-carbon economy, which carries out market analysis, policy research, market development; advises governments and regulators; and administers a global Climate Bonds Standard & Certification Scheme.
Climate Bonds is developing criteria for Crop and Livestock Production, and Climate Bonds are seeking an experienced expert on GHG emissions from the food system to advise on Emissions Intensity and Mitigation Targets that we aim to incorporate into the criteria.
Purpose and Objectives
The main objective of this work is for Climate Bonds to determine the best approach to incorporating Emissions Intensity as Benchmark and determining Mitigation Targets as Milestones in Transition Pathways for “In Transition” and “1.5C Aligned” Labels.
Climate Bonds is seeking an experienced expert with significant knowledge and confidence in setting criteria for certification of “In Transition” and “1.5C Aligned” transition pathways in the Agri-Food Sector.
We require significant expertise in:
- Emissions Intensity within the Agri-Food Sector: metrics and quantitative values that are most appropriate and feasible as benchmark for this sector for both “In Transition” and “1.5C Aligned” Labels.
- Mitigation targets: mitigation targets, both in absolute and relative values, that are most appropriate to align the sector to a credible 1.5C trajectory, including which values are best fitting for 2030, 2040 and 2050 milestones.
- Poore and Nemecek, 2018, Science: Database, methodology and analysis of its applicability in Standards setting.
- Any other topics identified and relevant for this work.
Scope of Services and Deliverables/Outputs
The key deliverables expected by the consultant to support the project objectives include:
- 5-6 meetings (online) to explore and resolve questions on the emission mitigation proposal, over the period from Sept to Dec 2023.
- Revision and detailed feedback to improve the final background paper that will accompany the final criteria documentation (30-40 pages), over the period October to December 2023.
Timeframe and Milestones for expected Deliverables/outputs
The proposed timeframe for the deliverables for this consultancy will be from October (or asap) to December 2023. The table below outlines the key deliverable and outputs and estimated completion date. Dates will be further agreed once the consultant is onboarded.
