Sifted is an award-winning media company, backed by the Financial Times, reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe. Four years after launching, our journalism is a must-read for founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.
Summary:
How are LLMs impacting the human-knowledge interaction? How can we redesign experiences for people trying to get answers from multiple sources and different content types? These are the questions we are trying to answer here at Sifted.
We are looking for a talented and experienced Machine Learning Engineer. In this role, you will work in the product team and in close collaboration with everybody in the company to research, design, and ship features that will help our users understand the complex world of early-stage startups. You will be joining a team of ~10 people who are passionate about building products and own the ML side of the product.
Do you want to design and build solutions with us?
ABOUT THE ROLE:
- Compose hundreds of calls to language models to accomplish tasks that we can't accomplish with a single call.
- Quickly iterate, prototype, and develop robust architectures, finding the right balance between precision, cost, and speed.
- Mentor and up skill junior members of the team, guiding them to expand their skill set and contribute effectively to the project.
- Curate datasets for fine-tuning models, e.g. for training models to abstract the impact that a new policy may have on a set of startups.
Requirements
ABOUT YOU:
- A strong software engineering background. We are looking for someone who brings to the table good experience in building systems, designing architecture, and thinking about good abstractions. We will need you to do much more than write scripts.
- Familiarity with language models (training, fine-tuning, evaluation), or comparable machine learning or natural language processing background (e.g. experience with information extraction, semantic search).
- A startup mindset. You’ll want to test lots of ideas, get feedback, and watch yourself learning and growing every day.
Benefits
WHAT WE OFFER
- Salary of £70k-100k (dependent on experience and location)
- 25 days of annual leave plus 3 extra days between Christmas and New Year, plus UK public holidays
- £1,000 personal development budget
- Quarterly Hackathons in London
