The Vacancy
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is seeking a talented, highly creative and proactive individual to join their award-winning Pre-school and Picture books Team in the role of Senior Designer. The Senior Designer will work across a wide range of illustrated hard backs/ paperbacks, board books and novelty titles.
The role
Supporting the Art Director and working closely with the Editorial Team, you will oversee all stages of the design process across a wide range of titles, from initial ideas through to final print ready pdfs. You will be working with an array of illustrators, from best-selling established names to exciting debut talent.
Role reports to the Art Director, Pre-school and picture Books
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Significant demonstrated experience as a designer of illustrated children's books. Any novelty experience would be an advantage
- A strong creative portfolio of work showcasing your ability to design original covers, series branding and interior layouts
- Proven experience of commissioning and working closely with illustrators, demonstrating how you have sensitively handled important relationships
- Proven experience in preparing files for print and print ready pdfs
- Proficient in using all Creative Suite software
- Practical, highly organised with an ability to manage multiple projects and ambitious to deliver the very best results to tight deadlines.
- Great communication and presentation skills
- An understanding of the requirements of co-edition publishing

The role is a full-time and permanent
Salary Range: £35,000 - £40,000
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based. Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday.
