This is a volunteer role. Everyone working on the campaign is a volunteer. However, this may become a paid role as part of our work together.

-----------------------------------------------------

Do you want to…

  • play a pivotal role in combating the climate and nature emergency?
  • join a community of energetic people collaborating with a unified purpose?
  • lead on building a movement with real, meaningful impact?

#0Beef is the campaign working to usurp beef (and lamb) with healthy, plant-based food in every school and university across the UK (and beyond).

Why beef and lamb? Why not all meats or all animal products?

The evidence is clear – humans and organisations are much quicker to make small, logical changes (dropping beef and lamb) than large ones (dropping all animal products).

However, once a small change is made and emotionally “owned”, it snowballs.

This is why so many people and organisations have gone from #0beef to vegetarianism and plant-based diets. It may not be the direct route, but it’s frequently the fastest.

Prior to pausing during COVID-19, #0Beef was featured in The Sunday Times, was endorsed by Sir Paul McCartney and Peter Gabriel, and supporters included the University of Cambridge, Goldsmiths University, and numerous schools.

#0Beef is now starting up again, and is recruiting a Campaign Coordinator to run the show!

Role / what you’ll be doing:

The Campaign Coordinator will work with a small group of students who are currently stewarding the campaign whilst a coordinator is found.

The coordinator will also meet fortnightly with Matthew Shribman (the campaign’s founder) who is advising and supporting with contacts etc.

How you run the campaign will be something you’ll lead on with support of the students and Matthew, however tasks likely to make up your universe include:

  • Coordinating volunteers
  • Recruiting volunteers
  • Campaign strategy and management
  • Leading on press and promo opportunities
  • Strengthening existing relationships with supporters

What you’ll need:

  • Initiative and a self-starting, go-getter approach, to rapidly take ownership – there is no time to lose in this global emergency.
  • Fantastic people skills / a love of human beings.
  • Experience running lean, volunteer campaigns (knowing how to do a lot with a little!).
  • A good understanding of the climate and nature crisis, regeneration and sustainability (e.g. you understand that emissions are only one driver of the collapse of nature).
  • The pragmatism to focus your work on a key pressure point for dietary change even if that point may not represent the overall ideal!
  • A pre-existing network of helpful contacts.
  • The ability to adapt and learn quickly from past work. Some experience of data-driven evaluation is helpful.

Nice to haves

  • Fund-raising skills.
  • An in-depth understanding of the world of food systems campaigning.
  • Production and design skills – lean campaigns often live or die on the quality of their design!
