  • Develop and manage infrastructure to enhance the global reach and performance of Chess.com.
  • Construct resilient systems to handle millions of daily games and a multitude of services in a multi-regional setup.
  • Address exciting technical challenges, including scaling across cloud platforms and data centers.
  • Collaborate with Google Engineers on pioneering solutions and participate in joint initiatives.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes cluster management.
  • Experience with high-traffic production environments using GCP or AWS.
  • Proficient in using Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Skilled in building CI/CD pipelines and adopting a GitOps approach.
  • Understanding of modern observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Cortex, EFK).
  • Additional experience with message brokers like Kafka is a plus.
  • Interest in developing hybrid on-prem/cloud Service Mesh would be advantageous.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a lifelong learning mindset are essential.

About You

You are passionate about building and managing infrastructure. It brings you joy to learn new technologies and use them to help reach challenging product goals. You have solid experience deep diving into Linux internals, as well as the future-oriented skills of managing Cloud/Kubernetes ecosystems. You are humble with a sense of humor and eager to be a part of a like minded team of people.  You have been working in or dreamed of working in the gaming industry and are ready to turn your talents towards chess!

What You’ll Do

  • You will support our global infrastructure and help us grow chess around the world
  • You will take part in building a multi regional resilient system capable of handling millions of games each day along with tons of additional services.
  • You will have the opportunity to solve interesting challenges like scaling 1 million CPUs across a dozen regions.
  • You will play a key role, maintaining stability and performance, as we blend and scale workloads across GCP and hosted datacenters in a true hybrid environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in managing Kubernetes clusters
  • High traffic production experience with GCP or AWS clouds
  • Solid experience managing all resources with Terraform (we treat Infrastructure as Code)
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines & GitOps approach
  • Good understanding of modern observability stacks i.e. Prometheus, Cortex, EFK, Jaeger, Kiali
  • Bonus: Experience with message brokers (e.g. Kafka, PubSub, Redis)
  • Bonus: You are interested in building a hybrid on-prem/cloud Service Mesh
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team

About the Opportunity
