Internship – Computer Vision & Object Tracking

MISSION TO METRICS 
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. In the River Team, we aim to prevent floating plastic from being emitted into the oceans through the most polluted rivers in the world. 

The Analysis & Performance team contributes to the success of The Ocean Cleanup by ensuring that the decision-making processes in Rivers are grounded in reliable data. In the Analysis & Performance team, we use cameras to monitor plastics and patches of plastic on and around the river surface. Your role is to improve our algorithm for tracking and counting plastics and plastic patches on the river surface. This dives into the fields of object detection, segmentation, and multi-object tracking. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 
Your main responsibilities include: 

• Build & extend a ground-truth dataset for trackingand detecting objects
• Research & validate tracking methods
• Investigate segmentation and categorization of segments of patches of plastics in and around rivers
• Prepare improvements for implementation into functioning pipelines

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

• Enrolled in an MSc-level track in computer science, data science, physics or similar
• Experienced with Python
• Affinity with deep learning and object detection
• Fluent in English
