Your Role - Overview:
The Role requires an experienced Project Manager competent in the management of multidiscipline scopes, who will represent GrowUps interests in areas of safety, quality and compliance throughout project delivery. Ensuring that projects are commissioned on time to the high standards required and within budget. The programme has been broken down into main areas, these areas are spread between several Project Managers, this Project Manager role will be to take on two of these main areas managing:
- Building Civils & Structure
- Utilities & Infrastructure
The role requires management of the full project life cycle, joining the team in the coming months will see the current phase of the project in construction and the future phase moving through design and procurement. The role will cover management and engineering input into both current and future project stages.
EHS & Compliance
The role requires you ensure that all projects are delivered safely, meeting all internal and external EHS compliance standards, including food safety. Ensuring that all project team members comply with EHS rules and expectations during all stages of the project delivery. Ensuring projects comply with, all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards. That you support all parties involved in duties to comply with the CDM 2015 regulations and support the project and site wide safety culture.
People
You will be reporting to the Project Director and will work closely with them on a daily basis. The structure is as below:

- Project Managers & Lead Engineer Design – Includes this role
- Supporting Team
There are no direct reports for this role, however you will be responsible for ensuring effective team management of the following pivotal members of the team who support across multiple projects:
- Project Administrator
- Project Engineers
- Commissioning Engineer
- Construction Management Team – Site Manager, Site Assistant Manager, Site Supervisor
- Ongoing External Planning Support & Drafting Support
Additional specialist services are supported as required.
Planning and Finances
The Project Manager will be required to work with the Project Team, GrowUp stakeholders and direct management to select the most appropriate route of delivery. Thereafter ensuring
- Spend is correctly allocated and tracked against budgets
- Overspend risks are identified, managed and approved before spend is incurred
- Internal schedules and vendor schedules are managed and maintained
- Monthly input is provided for progress reports covering risks, schedule and financial update
Engineering
The team is a fast paced and dynamic team managing a high number of engineering suppliers to solve the challenges of delivering a project at the cutting edge of sustainable food production. Therefore, the role requires a strong engineering background to support the drive to improve performance throughout the project delivery. As learnings gained from the existing facilities Operational teams and the current phase of delivery need to be integrated into the emerging designs.
Requirements
- Including but not limited to the below duties & deliverables.
- Producing Scopes and Specifications.
- Risk identification and mitigation in all phases of the Project Life Cycle
- Design input, development and management of external design consultants.
- Producing project execution plans, strategies and cost estimates for different options.
- Presenting options for implementation to stakeholders.
- Selection of suppliers, producing tender packs and running tenders, and management of suppliers and contractors through delivery.
- Contract management, tracking variations, reviewing valuations and approving payments.
- Overseeing the site management team responsible for key duties under CDM 2015.
- Overseeing installation is completed safely, to the right quality and specification.
- Overseeing the commissioning activities. Ensuring appropriate FAT and SAT’s are agreed and satisfied before full ownership of new equipment is taken.
- Collaborate with engineers, statutory bodies, and the operations team to ensure a smooth roll out of production facilities.
- Facilitation of appropriate training and full documentation for the end-users from suppliers.
- Ensure completion of post project reviews on completed projects.
- Take ownership of area programme and budget including producing plans and timelines.
- Monitoring and documenting project progress and other performance indicators.
- Preparing monthly reports and input into other reports such as H&S and board packs, and chairing meetings with stakeholders and 3rd party contractors.
- Input into supporting documentation for future investment.
- Supporting constant improvement within the team and development of team members.
- Assisting the wider team’s delivery where work load allows.
Job Role Factors
- This role currently has single site responsibility, but you may be required to work from other sites in the future.
- Occasional travel to suppliers/contractors for meetings, factory inspections and audits.
- Although significant proportion of time will be office based and involve working with PC’s, there will be a regular requirement to be out on the work site. Therefore, some incidental physical activity will be required from time to time (climbing ladders to access platforms for example).
Key Competencies
- Qualified to a degree level in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience and other relevant qualifications.
- Required to have a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience with a minimum of 5 of those years within a project role.
- Experienced in delivery of projects in a comparable industry with Value of + £10 million.
- IT Literate. Able to use full MS Office Suite including MS Project Planner.
- Able to follow engineering design drawings.
Personal Skills
- You’ve got sound understanding of the characteristics of projects over a significant portion of the project lifecycle.
- You’ve got experience of leading project management for medium to large sized general construction projects, fitout or process contracts.
- You’ve got an ability to think logically for day-to-day tasks and time management, and you can find solutions for issues facing design, project, programme, and cost.
- You bring good judgement and integrity to every project you work on – you can determine the right course of action with some degree of decision-making latitude.
- You communicate confidently to internal and external stakeholders and you’re in your element presenting to external project teams on a one too many basis.
- You’re passionate about setting challenging personal goals and doing everything to the best of your ability.
- You’re enthusiastic, self-motivated and determined to succeed.
- You’re open to and curious about ideas and thinking from both inside and outside the organisation.
