Sifted is looking for a junior editor to join our team of friendly and collaborative journalists covering the world of European startups and tech.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented wordsmith who wants to develop as a subeditor and editor.
In this role, you’ll be the linchpin of our newsroom — playing a vital role in helping our publishing process run smoothly and upholding Sifted’s high journalistic standards. Your responsibilities will primarily be to sub- and copy-edit, but we’d also like you to have fun with headlines, and be creative with imagery and charts.
We will place a strong emphasis on personal development in this role. Working closely with our team of editors, you will be mentored to develop your subbing and copy editing skills and grow as an editor.

What will you be doing?
- Subbing, fact-checking and proofreading copy across Sifted — which includes newsroom articles, newsletters, data briefings, commercial, marketing and events copy — to an impeccably high standard
- Copyediting
- Crafting excellent headlines
- Optimising on-page SEO, including images and charts
- Maintaining and updating, where necessary, the Sifted brand, tone of voice and style guides and ensuring they are used consistently in-house and by freelance
Applicants for this role must be based in London, or willing to relocate.
Successful first stage applicants will be required to complete a subbing task and a short copy editing task, followed by a final interview.

Requirements
- Meticulous attention to detail and a fastidious approach to fact checking and accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Experience subbing or editing in a fast-paced digital news or business publishing environment
- A strong understanding of media law and how to uphold best journalistic practice
- An understanding of the startup industry is a bonus
