Role Summary
- Collaborate with IT support and Bioinformatics teams to oversee bioinformatics workflows and lab infrastructure.
- Maintain and enhance cloud infrastructure, focusing on automation and integration solutions.
- Monitor systems, ensuring security and backups are up to date.
- Manage AWS Cloud infrastructure and contribute to version control and container management.
- Interface with IT, lab scientists, and bioinformaticians to meet integration needs.
- Improve existing infrastructure and development processes, solving operational issues.
- Configure and troubleshoot databases effectively.
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Proven DevOps background, ideally in the Life Sciences sector.
- Ability to work independently and communicate with non-developer stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience with Cloudwatch, AWS Cloud ecosystem, AWS Management Console, and Linux.
- Knowledge of scripting languages Python & Bash.
- Proficiency in container technologies and version control.
- Desirable: Knowledge of Slurm Workload Scheduler, infrastructure as code, JupyterHub, bioinformatics tools, data management, security, AWS Lambda, project management, and IT-relevant regulatory standards.

Your role in our team:
As a DevOps Engineer, you will work closely and collaborate with various teams including IT support and Bioinformatics. You will work with a detailed overview of the current bioinformatics workflows, lab environment, infrastructure and systems and their utilisation and deployment. You will be responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and improving the existing cloud infrastructure, automation and integration solutions as well as creating new solutions. Your role will encompass the use of a broad range of tools and Cloud technologies within Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment/Delivery (CD).
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Proactive monitoring of systems, including backups and interfaces.
- Independently providing day-to-day oversight, monitoring and maintenance of the infrastructure systems and software, including security, backup processes.
- Support daily running of AWS infrastructure in a secure manner.
- Expanding the capacity of AWS Cloud infrastructure.
- Liaising with IT, Lab scientists and Bioinformatics to understand integration requirements.
- Contributing to version control and container management.
- Contributing to the improvement of existing infrastructure and development process.
- Identifying operational problems and work with others to find resolutions. Ensuring outcomes are documented.

- Will have a minimum Bachelor’s in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
- Have significant DevOps experience, preferably with the Life Sciences sector.
- Have demonstrable experience working in a small team and being the contact point for non-developer customers.

- Problem solving and supporting internal stakeholders/multiple teams to meet the business objectives.
- Working independently to resolve technical queries.
- Experience using Cloudwatch to build service monitoring metrics and alarms.
- Administering an AWS Cloud ecosystem (preferably holder of AWS accreditations).
- Working within the AWS Management Console.
- Working in Linux.
- A working understanding of scripting languages Python & Bash.
- Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes or similar).
- Version control (Git).

- Working knowledge of Slurm Workload Scheduler.
