Role Summary

  • Oversee the finance operations function, including purchase ledger and credit control teams.
  • Ensure efficient debtor and creditor management, meeting all deadlines.
  • Support recovery actions, produce weekly debtor reports, and perform daily bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and support the continuous improvement of financial processes.
  • Provide regular financial and operational reporting.
  • Mentor, develop, and manage team members.

Role Requirements

  • A high level of accuracy, strong numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload for both personal and team responsibilities.
  • Experience in finance operations, competence in purchase ledger and credit control processes, and the ability to use Sage accounting systems.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English, and a professional accounting qualification such as AAT is desirable.

Greenzone is a nationwide waste-management brokerage business that has recently been acquired by First Mile, a leading waste-management company pursuing a private-equity-backed buy-and-build strategy. This role is dedicated to Greenzone and will lead the finance operations team, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, strong financial controls, and accurate transactional processing across purchase ledger and credit control, while supporting ongoing post-acquisition change within the business.

The role: As the Finance Operations Manager, you will ensure the smooth running of the Finance Operations function. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the purchase ledger and credit control teams, ensuring effective debtor and creditor management, meeting all deadlines, and escalating issues appropriately. You will perform and review daily bank reconciliations, monitor customer receipts, produce weekly aged debtor reports, and support recovery actions. Additionally, you will ensure internal controls are maintained and improved where required, support continuous improvement of financial processes and system usage, provide regular financial and operational reporting, and line manage, mentor, and develop team members.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate should have strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload for self and team, work under own initiative, and possess strong numerical and analytical ability. Experience managing and developing a team, high level of accuracy and attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, and competence in IT including accounting software and Excel are essential. Experience in finance operations or a similar role, competence with purchase ledger and credit control processes, and experience using Sage accounting systems are required. Basic accounting and VAT knowledge is necessary. A GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English is required, and a professional accounting qualification such as AAT is desirable.
