To work with the Director of People, CEO, Senior Exec Team, People Team and Comms team to drive HarperCollins UK inclusion and employee engagement agenda and work to ambitious goals to make HCUK a reference for being an attractive and diverse workplace in the media sector and beyond. The DE&I Manager will promote systemic and behavioural actions and changes to increase inclusivity and diversity at HCUK.
This role is a critical role that will help carry us forward faster to enact positive inclusive change.
Key Responsibilities
Working with the Director of People to fully understand and suggest key short, medium and long-term sustainable solutions to the lack of diversity in the Publishing Industry. Have a good understanding of the issues from the acquisition of content, promotion, sales and the full employee life cycle with HCUK.
Work with the DOP to continually develop and refresh the Inclusive People Strategy, providing guidance and consultation to HC’s CEO, Exec team, senior managers, the People function, the Communications function and all employees.
Collaborate with the People Partners including talent development, talent acquisition and attraction, Comp & Bens etc.
Manage multiple D&I projects from initiation to execution working collaboratively through the business and its Stakeholders.
Provide insight of regulatory and Policy developments affecting areas of responsibility in line with D&I.
Provide best practice and innovative ideas to address the challenges in HCUK/Publishing.
Build relationships within HCUK/Publishing to influence positive change.
Build relationships with HCUK Execs and senior leads and ensure active engagement, support of D&I initiatives and integration into the business.
Identify, leverage and promote external diversity partnerships, events to support our D&I goals.
Collaborate with Communications (internal and external) to ensure promotion of our employee value proposition and improve and develop our employer brand proposition that resonates with the market for strength in our inclusive reputation.
Attraction and Recruitment
Working closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager and People team to increase diverse talent attraction through schemes, programmes and partnerships.
Continually suggest and deliver initiatives that lead to more inclusivity in our recruitment practices from systems to hiring Managers and beyond.
Increase our brand reputationally as an organisation that is known for transparency and fairness in its talent attraction and recruitment practices to hire the best diverse talent.
Grow and improve our traineeship programme now in its 8th year. Work closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager on these programmes.
Support the DOP and Talent Acquisition Manager on key developments for Anonymous Recruitment, structured interviews and diverse shortlist.
Suggest innovations to hire more senior-level diverse talent to improve our representation at the leadership levels.
Retention and Development
Work with the DOP to design, implement and manage D&I related programmes and initiatives.
Identify opportunities for retention and progression of diverse talent.
Mandate Inclusion related learning and development to promote active change management for all employees.
Design and deliver programmes ranging from mentoring, sponsorship, reverse schemes, workshops and keynotes etc that provide positive change in our business and provide ROI on training and delivery by internal talent.
Enhance our existing training programmes. Deliver new initiatives around ally-ship, privilege, microaggressions and other key subject matters around DE&I.
Design and deliver content that can be thread into iDevelop (our learning portal) on D&I to spread the latest thinking.
Work closely with the Comms team to maintain and monitor a D&I events calendar and organise company-wide subject experts to help influence HCUK on its journey.
Work with DOP on all key development initiatives and suggest new ideas for the long-term strategy.
Inclusive Culture
Along with the DOP and People Team, help drive strategies to promote a culture of belonging that accepts all and releases people to their full potential.
Cultivate our diversity network groups, connect employees with external experts and support our networks to improve our workplace culture. Suggest and consider innovations for our network group position.
Fully engage colleagues from all backgrounds and perspectives to drive distinctive diversity and inclusion solutions.
Bring 1000 hearts and minds together talking and walking Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.
Engage in D&I award submissions to continually drive our reputation and brand recognition.
Measuring Success
Run and continually improve our annual D&I Survey to ensure we collect the right information that informs our Strategy to enact positive change.
With the DOP and a cross functional team of Comms and Finance, work on delivering improvements and best practice on Gender Pay Reporting and Ethnicity Pay Reporting.
Use relevant research data (as well as intuition) to show the ROI of D&I. In addition, identify demographic trends and best practices that enhance HCUK’s inclusion efforts.
Suggest improvements to the DOP on measurable engagement targets in order to track and analyse D&I KPI’s.
Calculate employee engagement metrics (e.g. retention and turnover rates of diverse talent) to take on evidenced approach to improve the company performance.
The ideal candidate
Deep D&I expertise with a record in delivering positive change in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Strong D&I understanding of the latest trends within the market to enable an innovative approach to creating an engaged and inclusive culture.
Programme delivery from initiation, design to execution and facilitation.
Experience of building D&I initiatives, measuring success and identifying key areas of business for improvement with an emphasis on tracking progress – therefore having an ability to analyse data and interpret results is important.
Driven to deliver results that contribute towards the company’s inclusion strategy.
A collaborative team player that can work easily across the People Team and throughout the organisation.
Ability to handle a fast-paced changing organisation.
Project management skills and expertise in running multiple projects and change management initiatives.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to develop relationships at all levels of employees.
Able to quickly understand the challenges in the Media/Publishing sector and have a solutions orientated approach with limited budget capacity.
An interest and passion in media/publishing/digital sectors
