For two decades, The CarbonNeutral Protocol has played a critical role in enabling clients to confidently make clear and credible claims about their climate programs and navigate the complicated and rapidly developing landscape of voluntary climate action. Each year, The Protocol is revised to address developments in the industry and changing best practice standards. The Protocol underpins CarbonNeutral® certifications awarded by Climate Impact Partners to recognize carbon neutral organizations, products, and activities, and provides a detailed framework for the design and implementation of credible carbon neutral programs. In 2024, The Protocol will expand its support to organizations making climate-related claims in addition to CarbonNeutral® certification.
The Certification Program Executive is responsible for the management and delivery of our global clients’ CarbonNeutral® certifications, ensuring compliance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol. You will support our clients in understanding and fulfilling each requirement of their certification with a focus on facilitating GHG assessments with third party assessment partners. You will also support our clients and internal teams with understanding and responding to the changing landscape of green claims beyond the scope of CarbonNeutral certification. You will act as the subject matter expert for our clients, partners, and internal teams across the business. You will be the key relationship holder with external consultants who provide GHG assessments to our clients. Within the role, you will facilitate each GHG assessment, ensuring professional, robust, and high-quality assessments are delivered in an effective and efficient manner. The goal is to ensure accurate, robust, and timely reporting in line with The CarbonNeutral Protocol while providing the highest levels of client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong project management ability and attention to detail, and confidence with understanding technical information, while working with a multitude of clients simultaneously. This position works with the Client Relationship Managers to ensure the successful delivery of our services and helping to streamline the commercial process. The role will also support the Client Solutions Team in their role to bring new clients on board. The Certification Program Executive will report into the Claims and Assessments Director and will work closely with the team to deliver client programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own and manage the end-to-end certification process of our clients working towards their CarbonNeutral certification.
• Deliver excellent client service by supporting clients through their GHG assessment (carbon footprint calculations), in partnership with third party assessment providers.
• Project management of GHG assessments including facilitation of kick-off calls, assessment progress tracking, quality review and acceptance of completed assessments.
• Critical review of third-party GHG assessment reports to assess compliance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol, considering scope boundaries, required emissions sources and quality requirements.
• Drive integrity of client programs through program management to ensure that clients’ certifications remain compliant with the requirements of The CarbonNeutral Protocol and are up to date with their programs.
• Support the Client Solutions team to develop certification and related solutions for new and existing clients.
• Support clients and assessment partners with technical queries as a subject matter expert.
• Manage ongoing relationships with assessment partners and technical consultants to enable effective project planning and delivery.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the GHG assessment and wider certification processes with a focus on efficiency, quality, and client experience.
• Contribute to knowledge-sharing and education of the wider team in relation to industry developments and changes to best practice.
• Support our clients and team-members understand and navigate the complex and evolving landscape of climate-related claims.
• Provide expert guidance and input to support the ongoing development of The CarbonNeutral Protocol and other technical documents.
• Maintain a good understanding of GHG assessment standards, protocols and initiatives including The CarbonNeutral Protocol, WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol, Life Cycle Assessments, and related standards for carbon footprint measurement (e.g., ISO 14064). • Support external reporting requirements of Climate Impact Partners relating to GHG emissions, such as our own company footprint, CDP, B-Corp, etc.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• 2+ years client relationship and management experience
• Experience of managing ongoing programs with a compliance element
• Technical knowledge and understanding of Greenhouse Gas Accounting frameworks and understanding of related standards such as the GHG Protocol
• Understanding or appreciation of green-claims and related frameworks such as carbon neutrality, net zero, VCMI, SBTi and so on
• Strong project management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Quick to learn and confidence with technical detail
• High attention to detail •
Comfortable working in a quickly evolving industry
DESIREABLE EXPERIENCE
• Life cycle assessments, product carbon footprints
• Understanding of related international regulation and policy
• Experience in quality assurance or audit
