Role Summary

  • Develop and operate cloud-hosted services in a backend engineering team.
  • Engage in hands-on coding and solution architecture to build new features.
  • Own solutions from concept to deployment, including technical design and live service support.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to achieve objectives and improve processes.
  • Participate in incident management and provide technical support.
  • Mentor junior team members and drive continuous improvement.

Role Requirements

  • Computer Science degree or relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in .NET (Core/Framework), REST APIs, and OO programming (C# experience preferred).
  • Experience with relational databases and strong analytical skills.
  • Effective team player with strong individual contribution capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, Cosmos DB, and Terraform is an advantage.
  • Experience with scalable and fault-tolerant system design and development is beneficial.

Moneybox is growing rapidly. We have more users, more accounts, more money invested, more features, more code, more data, and more team-members than ever before. We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help us handle all that growth without compromising on our service or product quality.

This role is in our back end engineering team that builds and operates our cloud hosted services. You will be working with people throughout Moneybox to develop new features, provide technical solutions, support the live service and improve the way we do things. We’re looking for someone who enjoys a mix of solution architecture, hands-on coding, and owning their solutions from concept to delivery. You will also be part of a multi-functional team, all working together to complete the team’s objectives. 

We don’t expect you to be an expert in everything we use, but a fundamental understanding of how things work is important.

- C#, .NET Core / .NET Framework (being phased out)

- REST APIs, Hangfire, React, MediatR, Entity Framework, Mass Transit, xUnit/NUnit

- Azure: App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, CosmosDB, Redis, SQL Server, Data Factory

GitHub, Azure DevOps, Terraform, Datadog, Rollbar

What You’ll Do

Hands-on coding solving complex problems, with a keen eye for defensive programming, resilience and performance Writing unit / integration tests along with production code to produce reliable and scalable features Contributing to regular planning sessions such as refinement and task prioritisation Collaborating with a wider team of engineers, QA testers, product managers, UX designers, and mobile developers to build new features. Owning technical solution design for significant product features, software modules, and technical initiatives Owning your code from inception to deployment into Production - you own a feature’s journey (we follow a continuous delivery model and all engineers frequently deploy to production multiple times a day) Getting involved in live incidents as required, following our internal incident management process Supporting, coaching, and mentoring junior team members Setting high standards, and continually improving how we do things Providing technical support to internal teams Sharing knowledge, documenting decisions via ADRs and embracing a collaborative culture Staying abreast of and (where necessary) applying the latest emerging technologies

Essential Skills

A degree in Computer Science or relevant experience Proven track record in a similar role Strong understanding of: .NET (Core/framework), REST APIs OO programming languages (we use C#) Relational databases Strong analytical and problem solving skills Able to work both individually and as part of an agile team Able to actively participate in technical and wider team discussions

Desirable Skills

Ability to communicate complex design ideas to the wider engineering group Microsoft Azure: App Services Functions Service Bus Azure DevOps Cosmos DB Infrastructure as Code / Terraform DDD Experience designing, developing, releasing and maintaining scalable, fault tolerant systems
