The role overview
As a Barista Trainer for Origin, you will be at the forefront of elevating and influencing coffee experiences by delivering our barista training programmes across our omni-channel business.
The focus of this role is to inspire careers in coffee, providing education at multiple levels including SCA, and supporting a broad spectrum of professional development for our customers and our employees. You will play a crucial role in hosting events, cupping, and competitions, and collaborating with our Education, Wholesale and Retail Manager to ensure an exceptional coffee training experience.
Our Barista Trainers are critical in shaping the future of coffee excellence through consistency and passion, supporting and guiding baristas and industry peers in their journey, and contributing to the success and influence of Origin's commitment to speciality coffee.
The role responsibilities
This role will be responsible for the education and development of Origin baristas, as well as wholesale and retail customers within a specific region (London, Cornwall, Bristol, or Edinburgh) through barista training, quality checks, competitions, and events.
Barista Training
- To deliver Barista, Sensory and Brewing Training at Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels for retail baristas and wholesale customers at the Origin training rooms.
- To deliver the SCA training curriculum.
- To regularly visit wholesale partners to check in with the teams within their premises and to coach baristas on the spot when needed.
- To regularly visit Origin’s retail to check in with the teams, coach baristas and head baristas on the spot when needed and conduct monthly Quality Control audits.
- To support the Retail and Education Manager’s identifying and nurturing talent within the retail structure, facilitating the team's development and guiding them through the barista pathway.
- To support organising and delivering Origin’s Coffee Workshops at various locations.
Coffee competitions, events, and tastings
- To keep up with the speciality coffee industry trends, attend coffee events, panels, and competitions.
- To inspire and guide baristas in their professional development, encouraging participation in coffee competitions.
- To work alongside the Education Manager to plan and host internal coffee competitions for wholesale customers and the retail team.
- To support the Wholesale Manager to conduct coffee tastings for wholesale partners.
- Collaborate with the Director of Coffee to support and deliver monthly tastings for wholesale and retail customers.
Requirements

- Previous experience as a Head Barista, seeking the next step in career development as an SCA trainer.
- An ability to establish working relationships so our customers and partners feel they are receiving an exceptional level of training at all times.
- Friendly and ambitious with meticulous attention to detail.
- A true ambassador for speciality coffee with a passion for sharing knowledge.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to contribute to the growth of the business.
Essential qualities to have
- Proficiency in organising and delivering barista training at various skill levels.
- Experience in supporting and being involved in events in the speciality coffee industry.
- Excellent communication and coaching skills.
- Enthusiasm for inspiring careers in coffee and fostering professional growth.
- Willingness to attend and support baristas in coffee competitions.
Desirable qualities to have
- SCA qualified and/or experienced with SCA education programmes.
- Experience in organising and hosting coffee-related events.
- Ability to host and deliver internal coffee competitions.
- Ability to conduct retail coffee tastings.
Benefits
Competitive Salary
£28,500 FTE per annum.
Nature of contract and working pattern
Permanent and full-time. Origin Coffee supports flexible working options for the right candidate who can meet both the role and the needs of the business.
