Role Summary

  • Oversee the construction of solar farms within the UK, ensuring compliance with time, budget, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and enforce contractual obligations.
  • Advise on and manage changes or variations during construction, coordinating with various divisions.
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders, including contractors and internal teams.

Role Requirements

  • Approachable with excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Highly organized with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A degree in construction management or related field, or relevant construction engineering experience.
  • Experience in managing solar farm installations or strong background in construction project management.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and programming aspects of large-scale projects.
  • Must have a clean UK Driving Licence.

Role Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Engineer / Clerk of Works to oversee the construction of solar farms across the UK. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the pre-construction and construction phase of the solar farm installations are completed within the stipulated time, budget, and quality standards, in accordance with contractual obligations. This role involves significant travel to various sites and requires a proactive approach to monitor progress, identify and advise on any changes, and liaise with multiple divisions to ensure seamless project execution.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to react swiftly and decisively when confronted with unexpected construction challenges. They should demonstrate independence in understanding the issue, analysing it comprehensively, and offering an appropriate course of action while considering the project's objectives, budget constraints, programme, and stakeholder interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly visit sites to monitor progress and understand the status of the project
  • Ensure that all works are being conducted in line with the contract, focusing on time, quality, cost, and safety
  • Monitor and provide guidance on any changes or variations submitted during the construction process
  • Liaise with the wider project team to consider items such as, but not limited to, planning, ecology, logistics, health and safety, ESG, community engagement to anticipate and mitigate any potential impacts on the project timeline
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including the EPC contractor and internal teams

Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified / higher education qualification in construction management or a related field, or experience in a construction engineering role
  • Proven experience in managing solar farm installations or a strong background in construction project management
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering and programming aspects of large-scale construction projects
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the capacity to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Clean UK Driving Licence
