Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • Proven experience in handling large, complex data sets.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience with dbt.
  • Understanding of big data technologies and architecture.
  • Proficiency in BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with git, Terraform, Python, JIRA, or AWS is a bonus.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for problem-solving.

We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join our Data Platform chapter and central Data Platform team. We record nearly 100 million lines of data daily with ~600 dbt models, and need you to help the business make sense of it by providing the capabilities that will help answer the product and commercial questions we face everyday.

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will work across a range of exciting projects that focus on building a scalable, optimised, high quality and accessible data platform - from our data warehouse to our BI & product analytics tools. Some of these projects will include:

  • Building new data models and transformation pipelines
  • Optimising our data warehouse
  • Building scalable architecture
  • Automating analysis and reporting
  • Ensuring data quality and adherence to data contracts

You will report to the Director of Data Platform and work closely with Engineers, Analysts & Business Stakeholders across the company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain robust data models and pipelines, across the breadth of Lyst data and use cases
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and data platform engineers to highlight and improve data quality and testing
  • Maintain our data warehouse and Looker infrastructure, identifying opportunities and optimising for complexity, cost, and speed-to-answer
  • Develop and implement best practices, including guidelines, automations, testing, metadata, and data design
  • Manage and coach more junior Analytics Engineers; perform detailed code reviews
  • Support on delivering our data strategy initiatives
  • Work closely with Analysts and Engineers to bridge the gap between data creation and data consumption
  • Research industry best practices to help us improve our existing data infrastructure, and continue to scale it with the growth of the business


Our stack includes: Snowflake, dbt, AWS, Looker, Monte Carlo, Terraform, Snowpipe, GitHub.

Requirements

  • Experience working with and modelling large, complex data sets, identifying issues, and ensuring data quality
  • Professional experience using advanced SQL to manipulate large data
  • Advanced knowledge of dbt
  • In-depth understanding of big data technologies and architectures, capable of architectural decisions
  • Ability to spot opportunities to automate repetitive tasks
  • Experience iterating & refactoring existing code as well as writing new code
  • A great communicator, comfortable working directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in modelling within a BI tool (Looker, Tableau, Lightdash or equivalent)
  • Experience with git, Terraform, Python, JIRA would be a great bonus
  • Familiarity of cloud computing environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), GCP or Azure is a plus
