What will you be doing?

SMAG (Somali Medical Aid Group)  is a new, small and committed NGO working to improve health outcomes in the most vulnerable communities in Africa, focusing on sustainable and impactful interventions. As we plan to expand our reach and deepen our impact, we recognise the importance of a solid legal foundation that supports our operations and growth ambitions. We are seeking a dedicated Legal Advisor Volunteer who is passionate about our mission and possesses the legal expertise to navigate the complexities of international collaborations and compliance. Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the registration with the Charity Commission and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Provide legal advice on navigating the challenges of working with local partners in Africa, ensuring adherence to international laws and best practices. Advise on legal matters related to establishing sister organizations in other countries, including understanding and navigating different legal jurisdictions. Develop legal policies and procedures to ensure the organization's operations are fully compliant with applicable laws. Guide the organization through drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements with partners to safeguard the NGO's interests. Keep abreast of legal developments affecting the NGO sector and provide actionable advice on potential impacts.

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

Qualified lawyer with experience in charity law, international law, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in dealing with legal issues related to nonprofit operations and international collaborations. Familiarity with the legal aspects of working with partners in different African jurisdictions. Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Proactive problem-solving approach and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Committed to making a significant impact on global health issues. Flexibility to work remotely and participate in meetings across different time zones as needed.
