What will you be doing?

Together for Short Lives is here to ensure every child, and their family, has high quality children’s palliative and end of life care, when and where they need it. We create change by working with families, professionals and services and influence policy makers and commissioners to ensure that children and families get the support they need. We have a bold ambitious ten-year vision and strategy to improve access to children’s palliative care and its quality and sustainability which families can rely on. We are looking to appoint two trustees to join our Board at a very exciting time of growth and change. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of the charity’s development. First and foremost, you will have a commitment to improving the lives of children and families and enthusiasm for our work. You will have experience of developing strategies and plans and understand the role of trustees in the governance of charities. We are looking to recruit new trustees with diverse backgrounds with professional experience gained in finance or commercial sectors.

What are we looking for?

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Together for Short Lives achieves its core purpose – to ensure every child, and their family, has high quality children’s palliative and end of life care, when and where they need it. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Together for Short Lives has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable the charity to deliver its work. Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals. The Trustee will oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Together for Short Lives has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.  Personal skills and qualities

Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation. Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Leadership experience and knowledge Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion. A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Personal commitment and enthusiasm for our vision and mission.

What difference will you make?

Ideally, we would like one of these appointments to take up the Treasurer role when the current Treasurer’s term ends in 2025. Trustee appointments are made for an initial term of three years, with the opportunity for a further term of three years. This is a voluntary unpaid role, with reasonable expenses paid.
