What will you be doing?
Our main reason for moving from an unincorporated entity to a CIO is to ensure that we can continue to grow and continue to provide valuable services and resources to the local community and Medway as a whole. Our charity does not have any paid members at the moment although in the future, a caretaking role would certainly be of benefit. We recognise the challenges that lie ahead, especially if we wish to employ staff, but also recognise that the future is an exciting opportunity to grow. Our Board of Trustees are jointly responsible for:
Providing flexible, accessible, safe and economical facilities for community groups from which they can operate, support and deliver services to their members Creating a home where community growth, action, volunteering and enterprise can be nurtured Operating on a financially sustainable model to protect the Oast building and its land Actively seeking new sources of funding to deliver the community hub ethos Ensuring that our policies and actions facilitate a community hub seeking to educate, inform, inspire and improve the wellbeing of the local community Ensuring that our policies and actions encourage equality and diversity of provision Ensuring we are focusing our energy & resources where they will have the greatest impact Having realistic plans to bring in income to cover our costs both in the short and long term Modelling what a sustainable CIO organisation looks like in the medium to long-term and recognising how that will be resourced.
Meetings are currently held monthly and Trustees are encouraged to attend as often as possible. The Treasurer presents the finance report at Trustee meetings and manages the finances of the organisation. We currently use Xero Accounting. The Treasurer also supports our Chair in preparing papers to ensure that trustees have information context they needed to make sound financial decisions. We are in regular contact with each other through Whatsapp, email and use a system called Trello to keep tabs on the tasks we have set. We seek to improve our services by recruiting skilled Board members to guide this charity into the future. An experienced Treasurer would enhance our ability to remain at the forefront of providing valuable services to the communities of Rainham and Medway.

What difference will you make?
The role of Treasurer is of vital important to us. We have a volunteer currently performing the role but we need an experienced Treasurer to take over and continue - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future. The Treasurer will be involved in budgeting and strategic financial planning, financial and management reporting, risk assessment, risk management and production of annual accounts, and is likely to be involved in areas such as investments and governance.
