What will you be doing?

The role of Treasurer involves overseeing the financial affairs of ACAN in conjunction with the Chair of Trustees, providing advice and ensuring that our records and processes are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. It is also a practical role requiring you to:

Pay and raise invoices as requested. Perform bank reconciliations and follow up discrepancies. Process donations made via our CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) website donation buttons. All Gift Aid reporting to HMRC is handled by CAF. Track receipt of grants, allocate income to groups/projects and provide information for the monitoring of grants. Respond to requests from group leaders for details of their own receipts and expenditure. Deal with petty cash and card reader donations received at our various events including the Repair Cafe.

You will be required to provide a summary report of funds available to each group / project to committee meetings. At financial year end you will need to produce the annual SOFA report to be uploaded to the Charity Commission. The trustees will help to produce the trustees annual report of activities. The outgoing treasurer will provide all training and support necessary for the day-to-day bookkeeping tasks and is happy to assist for the first 2 financial year ends if required. She lives locally and will be willing and available to answer questions as they arise.

What are we looking for?

The role will suit anyone with a financial background and who is happy communicating with others by email, phone or in person. Most of the work can be done remotely but personal attendance at the committee meetings would be appreciated. These are currently held every 6 to 8 weeks. Reliability and the ability to get on with volunteers working in other areas of the organisation are essential.

What difference will you make?

Your help will inspire confidence in our finances within the organisation, amongst our many volunteers and outside it, as we approach potential funders for grants. This is a vital and responsible role which requires contact with many key volunteers within the organisation as well as the other trustees and committee members and as such you will be a much-valued member of the team. There will also be the satisfaction that comes from supporting important work in the local community raising awareness of the climate and environmental crises and the lifestyle changes that can help to reduce its severity as well as adapting to its effects.
