What will you be doing?
We are urgently looking for a volunteer who will work no more than half a day a week in a team with our paid bookkeeper and our trustee Treasurer. We need help:
liaising with our book-keeper who posts sales and purchase invoices and ensures appropriate receipt and payment - as required or batched liaising with our Treasurer on the Board of Trustees who chairs Finance Committee and briefs and advises the Board liaising with Community First who do our payroll and ensuring they are funded for that. They do year end returns and manage HMRC, pension and net pay payments. Centre Operational Manager manages overtime etc matching receipts and payments to the right accounts on Sage which then prepares the trial balance downloading the trial balance into the management accounts and reviewing those against budget and for presentation to the Finance Committee - these have historically been quarterly downloading the year end trial balance including any necessary year end accruals, prepayments and journals, into statutory accounts for review by independent examiner. Liaise with trustees who draft the trustees report. setting budgets including cashflows, with Centre Operational manager for Finance Committee presentation making timely gift aid applications management of banking arrangements including optimising interest whilst ensuring availability of funds etc ad hoc input into funding and business requests including liaison with lawyers, insurance brokers and landlord. All this in a supportive role in conjunction with the Centre Operational Manager attendance and advice at Finance Committee, including financial policies and preparation of annual reports

Financial experience, not necessarily a qualified accountant but familiar with accounting practice
What difference will you make?
The Carroll Centre is a community hub located in an area of need. Many of our service users are from low income/unwaged households and are vulnerable. Things are especially tough for them after the energy price hikes and cost of living crisis. With your help we will be able to continue to operate a food pantry, staff and properly resource our nursery, operate a much needed social centre include a cafe, softplay centre and book exchange area as well as a host of other community acticities. You will help ultimately to ensure the long-term sustainability of our organisation.
