Volunteer Chair of Trustees to support the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector across South Gloucestershire

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to come in and build upon the work completed by our resigned Chair, Peter Steel. This is an exciting time for CVS South Gloucestershire and the local VCSE organisations that we support. With the newly Integrated Care System being launched, there is a real focus on the potential that local VCSE organisations can offer to support people's health and wellbeing. With a strong shift in focus towards prevention in health and wellbeing, the services that local VCSE organisations offer to the community, can be recognised as filling this gap. We are seeking someone with previous experience as a Trustee, who is a strategic thinker and can recognise the potential for the VCSE sector in this new health landscape and be an advocate for the VCSE sector.  

What are we looking for?

We need a passionate Chair of Trustees, dedicated to our mission and committed to working with us to expand our work and influence as a small organisation, for the benefit of the local VCSE sector of South Gloucestershire.  We are looking for an experienced trustee to take on the Chair of Trustees role. You will be reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses. The role of the Chair is:

To work in partnership with the CEO to ensure that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction to steer the charity to achieve its full potential, overcoming challenges and maximising opportunities that arise. To ensure that the board of Trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity. To work with the CEO to achieve the charity’s aims and objectives.

  Knowledge and Skills

Previous experience as a Trustee Leadership experience in any of the following:

Business HR Statutory services Third sector/ charity sector

Proven leadership & business skills Management experience gained in the public or third sector or within business or HR environments Knowledge and experience of best practice and good governance relevant to charities and the Charity Commission. Preference for an individual that has served as a Trustee and or as a Chair within a business or charity Knowledge of the area of South Gloucestershire in order to understand the unique issues that VCSE groups may be facing in this area

As a trustee you will work together with other trustees and chair to make the final decisions, and most importantly support our team. The trustees will offer strategic oversight, ensuring that the organisation meets its legal and financial responsibilities, as well as responsibilities towards its beneficiaries and stakeholders.  The Chair of Trustees will take particular responsibility for oversight over objective of the strategic plan, ensuring that the organisation is reaching its stated targets and supporting the team to reach its goals. The trustee will provide a leadership role in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its responsibilities for setting the strategy and governance of the organisation. You will help to plan and run trustee meetings and take the lead on ensuring that meetings are properly run and recorded. Our trustees play a vital role in  establishing and supporting a safe, friendly and empowering environment  for CVS South Gloucestershire's work.  As our Chair of Trustees you will  be given the opportunity to use the skills, experience and relationships you bring to support and shape our work.  Your contribution will help us to maximise the reach and impact of our work.
