What will you be doing?

To assist the Board to see the bigger picture; bring a fresh perspective to business and HR strategy; support the IITB’s structures and organisation and to grow and develop our people for a sustainable future. Main responsibilities of the HR/business trustee:

Strategically assess the organisation and work with the board to propose new operational methods and business plans. Contribute knowledge of business and strategies, understanding results and approving working practices with real insight. Guide the Board regarding HR best practice, strategic direction, goal and target setting, and help evaluate performance against targets and budgets. Help ensure that HR activities, policies and management are consistent with IITB’s charitable objectives and complement the charity’s culture. Help us to deal with change and enable us to adapt our ways of working from a people perspective to increase our sustainability. Oversee recruitment, skills development and succession planning for the Board and key personnel. To grow, maintain and develop volunteers and contractors throughout the charity.

What are we looking for?

Essential

A substantial background as a senior business or HR professional, with a proven track record of success at an operational and strategic level. Experience of business development, HR policy and practice, performance management. A good understanding of small and medium businesses and ability to ask the right questions about business plans, strategy and implementation. Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of current developments in HR, people development, training and recruitment. Excellent networking skills, influencing and communication skills. Have sound, independent judgement. Working effectively as a team member and demonstrating a willingness to learn and develop.

  Desirable

Knowledge of the voluntary sector. An understanding of the UK charity sector, or willingness to learn, good governance, Charity Commission, Companies House requirements, relevant legislations and statutory requirements. An understanding of the challenges facing small to medium UK charities in structure and organisation
