What will you be doing?
Bucks Students’ Union is seeking to recruit a new trustees to join our Board and help support our continued development. As a registered charity with a turnover in excess of £2.5 million and a career staff team of 40, Bucks Students’ Union provides a range of services to our diverse membership of c20,000 students. Our services include an Advice Centre and Representation Department, a 1,200 capacity social space, a catering operation, a vibrant student newspaper and a wide-ranging programme of sporting, developmental, recreational and volunteering activities. As part of our Board, you will support the Chief Executive Officer, the elected officers and the wider team in the continued delivery of our high-quality services and assuring the long-term sustainability of the organisation. We would welcome applicants with a keen understanding of higher education and issues affecting students and a passion for supporting the development of organisations in the third sector as well as a strong alignment with our values. In particular, we would encourage applications from individuals with legal and/or governance experience. All trustee positions are voluntary (expenses provided) and offer a range of personal development opportunities. Trustees should:
be able to demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of Bucks Students' Union. be able to demonstrate an empathy with the needs of students. be willing to devote the necessary time and effort to effectively fulfil the responsibilities of the role have experience of recruitment and selection procedures, award nomination committees and planning group have experience of strategic thinking in other organisations take an active role in helping BSU create and exploit the opportunities that will define its future demonstrate sound, independent judgement and a willingness to speak their mind be critical friends who challenge the Union to better evaluate its strengths and weaknesses possess an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship have a personal commitment to Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership
