What will you be doing?
I have been a trustee at Let's Play since 2015, joining a well established and inclusive board of Trustees and it has been an incredibly interesting, positive and fulfilling experience. Let's Play Project was started in 2001 by few parents to give their children with special needs an access to the mainstream play and leisure opportunities with support. Since then it has grown into a charity commissioned by Oxfordshire County Council and regulated by Ofsted and the Charities commission, supporting over 100 families in North Oxfordshire. Let's Play is run by a talented and committed core staff of 5, supported by a large and diverse team of play workers and a board of Trustees. Young people are at the heart of everything we do. We provide an after school and holiday club which gives vital play, learning and friendship opportunities for young people with learning and physical difficulties who cannot access mainstream extra-curricular activities. We aim to provide a safe, fun and inclusive environment for our staff and young people, where everyone is valued, and achievements are celebrated. We aim high - we want to grow so we expand the range of activities we provide as well as number of people we support Our first step was to move to our new premises in Adderbury, near Banbury. With new premises and ambitious plans to grow come new challenges. We are very proud of our dedicated and highly knowledgeable Board of Trustees. Our current Treasurer has been in his role for 6 years and it is time for a succession. How much time will it take? As with all the charities there is a comprehensive "to do list"! But we understand that everyone leads busy lives and some trustees can commit more time than others. We meet 4 times a year as a Board and undertake a broad range of projects (big and small) in the interim. You will also be chairing a subcommittee that fits within your area of skills. This is an incredibly positive organisation stacked with talented, caring, inclusive, passionate and compassionate individuals.
What are we looking for?
If you have experience in running a business or non-profit organisation, knowledge and skills in the area of Accounting and Finance as well as the time and commitment to be part of our pretty incredible team and service, you will be able to add plenty of value. We play to each others' strengths and everyone has a lot of transferable skills that are incredibly useful in this setting. Come and meet us, let us share our vision and aspirations - and we guarantee there will be plenty of fun and challenges but equally you will feel how your input makes a difference in the lives of our young people and their families.
What difference will you make?
Having you on Board will allow us to provide and sustain opportunities to grow as an organisation - to expand our services to more families and age groups, so more young people are included and are having fun, allowed to chill and express, have a place where they feel safe and can form friendships.
