What will you be doing?

FarmAbility has been working alongside adults with learning disabilities and autism for over 10 years. Once full-time education is over, there are very few opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to lead a fulfilling life, to develop skills and confidence and make friends. Many of our "co-farmers" would lead sedentary and isolated lives if it was not for FarmAbility and we always have a waiting list for our service. Our model relies on partnerships with farms and outdoor spaces who generously provide us with the space and facilities to deliver our service.  We are gradually expanding, taking great care to retain our person-centred approach for each of our co-farmers and making sure that we have a viable and sustainable financial model going forward. As a member of our board, you would work alongside fellow-trustees, our staff team and our co-farmers and families to help shape our future and become even better at what we do. Our current Treasurer is retiring after being with us for 9 years and we need to replace him. We are looking for someone to oversee our finances and ensure that they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practices. In addition, we are looking for someone who is able to provide a financial perspective to our CEO and Chair, including the encouragement of cost control and value for money, as we look to expand our activities.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management. Good financial analysis skills. Ability to communicate clearly Whilst a knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations would be helpful, it is not essential.

What difference will you make?

Every trustee plays an important role in the success of FarmAbility. We appreciate the difference that an effective board can make to an organisation by providing sound governance and support whilst respecting the boundaries of our role. Our Treasurer plays a vital part in this by giving a financial context not only to our current activities but also to our plans and dreams!
