What will you be doing?

You will work with Dave Darby from LowImpact.org to condense, organise, simplify and make accessible ideas about commoning. These optimisation processes will enable wider communities to understand and begin to use commoning principles to build agency, resilience and affordability into their lives.  This role is not set in stone and there are other side projects and subgroups forming around commoning which you could help in their content design and communication.

What are we looking for?

The right applicant should have an understanding of the basic premise of the commons movement, ideally with a broader awareness of why we need it, including at least some grasp of the systemic failures of the current extractive economic system. Do have a read through our blog posts to see if you are the right person for this position. You will be diving deep into this area and processing it to be at the right level for the target audience, so the ability to grasp complex ideas and explain them simply is a must. Enthusiasm for the subject and keenness to learn more will be important. You will be working with a wider UX/UI team and a content designer so being on time and the ability to work as a team is critical.

What difference will you make?

The Stroud Commons core members have collectively put in several centuries of research into ways to build resilience. We have come to conclude that commoning has the highest probability of doing this, with newer ideas complementing the age-old system of community ownership. Your input will enable these cutting-edge concepts to be accessible to more communities as we begin to distribute them widely. We’re working with other partner organisations to provide ‘recipes’ for building commons infrastructure, using the tools to raise investment without debt, provide strong asset locks, and to federate everything together for strength.  We’ll be producing guides to building commons institutions in every sector of the economy, and an online manual (the ‘Commoners Manifesto’). We’re also helping groups start in several other towns around the UK, and in other countries, including the US, Sweden, Galicia, Costa Rica, India and Nigeria. Join what we believe will become a burgeoning movement for real change.
