What will you be doing?

Calling all passionate individuals who want to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in East Kilbride! The 6th East Kilbride Scout Group is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Trustee Board. We're a vibrant group of volunteers who work together to ensure our young scouts have the opportunity to experience the magic of Scouting. As a Trustee, you'll play a vital role in guiding our group's future, shaping the development of well-rounded individuals who become the positive changemakers of tomorrow. What you'll do:

Provide strategic direction: Work alongside fellow Trustees to set the vision and long-term goals for the group, ensuring financial stability and sustainable growth. Contribute your expertise: Share your professional skills and knowledge to enhance the group's operations, whether it's finance, legal matters, marketing, or volunteer management. Champion Scouting values: Uphold the principles of Scouting and advocate for the importance of outdoor adventures, leadership development, and community service in shaping young people's lives. Act as a responsible steward: Oversee the group's finances, ensuring responsible resource allocation and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Foster a collaborative spirit: Work effectively with the Group Scout Leader, Trustee Board, and other volunteers to create a supportive and efficient environment.

Who you are:

A passionate believer in the positive impact of Scouting on young people. A strategic thinker with strong leadership and decision-making skills. A dedicated and reliable individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Someone with a collaborative spirit who thrives in a team environment. Ideally, you'll possess relevant professional experience that can benefit the group, such as finance, legal, marketing, or volunteer management.

Time commitment: We understand that everyone has busy lives, and we appreciate any time you can contribute. Typically, Trustee Board meetings are held monthly for around 2 hours, with additional time commitment dedicated to committee work and special projects as needed.

What are we looking for?

Skills:

Strategic thinking: The ability to think long-term and set goals for the group, as well as develop plans to achieve those goals. Financial management: The ability to understand and oversee the group's finances, ensuring that they are used effectively and responsibly. Legal and regulatory knowledge: A basic understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements that apply to Scouting organizations. Risk management: The ability to identify and assess risks, and develop plans to mitigate them. Communication and interpersonal skills: The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including young people, parents, volunteers, and funders. Teamwork and collaboration: The ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.

Experience:

Previous experience in a voluntary or board leadership role would be beneficial, but not essential. Experience in finance, law, marketing, or volunteer management would be a plus. A personal understanding of the benefits of Scouting would be helpful.

Qualities:

Passion for Scouting and youth development: A genuine belief in the positive impact that Scouting can have on young people's lives. Commitment to the group's mission and values: A strong understanding and commitment to the Scouting principles and values. Integrity and ethics: A high standard of personal and professional conduct. Enthusiasm and energy: A willingness to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the group's activities. A positive attitude and sense of humor: The ability to see the best in people and situations.

In addition to the skills, experience, and qualities listed above, it is also important for trustee board members to be representative of the community that the Scout Group serves. This means that the board should include people from different backgrounds, including different ages, genders, ethnicities, and religions.

What difference will you make?
