What will you be doing?

We're at a juncture. Every week for the past two years we've been running an online drop-in session for people living with social anxiety. Demand is high and it's clear there are significantly more people that we can reach. But we're constrained by our founder's time - unnecessarily so. We've recently spent time codifying the essence of the group and the process we've honed over the years. Now, in order for significantly more people to benefit from it, we need volunteers to start new groups and to pick up the process. Prerequisite to this is to incorporate as a charity. We have all of the pieces, but need the help of experienced trustees to put them in place. Our vision is to become the AA for social anxiety. A group on your doorstep, welcoming and accessible, and forever free. We need your help to try to make it happen. About the role We're seeking people with either experience as a trustee or mental health domain experience to join our founding team of trustees. As a founding trustee, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the direction and impact of the organisation, ensuring that it effectively supports individuals struggling with social anxiety. We're looking for people who have either served as a trustee or in a similar leadership role for at least 3 years and with a connection to our cause, or who have experience working in mental health for at least 3 years - for example as a clinical psychologist or therapist.  In addition you'll have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be happy working for a collaboratively with a diverse and small team, and ideally have knowledge of governance and charity best practices and help us navigate the formation process If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals dealing with social anxiety and have the skills and experience to contribute as a trustee, we'd love to hear from you.

What are we looking for?

Either:

3+ years experience as a trustee or in a similar leadership role (this might be in a startup or company), or 3+ years working in mental health support

We're keen to hear from people with a connection to our cause.  We're especially keen to hear from people who can help us work through these challenges:

How to form a charity and ensure we meet best practice for governance How we can raise funds from grants and other organisations  How we can measure our impact in a way that matches NHS and best practice PROMS for social anxiety  How we can recruit, vet and keep volunteers engaged How we can ensure members are safeguarded correctly How we can best work with external stakeholder organisations to support our mission How we can work with primary healthcare networks and social prescribers to refer to us

In addition, the basics:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills - we'll meet online and rely on clear communication Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team - we'll be a tiny founding trustee team Happy to work for free - sorry, we can't pay, but I hope you'll be amply rewarded in the impact you'll have

What difference will you make?

You'll have direct impact on helping people overcome social anxiety We hope you'll feel like you're instrumental in creating something meaningful to so many people Opportunity to help a new charity from the ground-up and set the direction of future travel
