What will you be doing?

We'd like to work with you to develop a series of illustrations and/or animations that convey key ideas about human identity. Your contribution will enable us to communicate critical ideas to many sectors including;

School children - to enable resilience against bullying and divisive messaging as well as increase their potential. Educators - to help identify children at risk earlier, to help nurture identity development in children and young adults. NGO practitioners - to help with working in communities, navigate cultural differences and build peace and cohesion. Government officials - to make informed policies which enables integration of diversity and future prosperity.

We are also doing an overhaul of the website and need illustrations based on the core concept to help UX/UI for a wide range of visitors to the site.  You will be working with a small team of UX/UI designers who are very experienced and capable. The work packages are shared on Slack by the director or the senior officer, with monthly meetings to align our efforts and develop strategic direction. The role is not set in stone and there may be areas of our work that you can jump in. For example, developing the front page of a toolkit publication we are releasing with UNESCO.

What are we looking for?

We expect to see a diverse content portfolio demonstrating a minimum of 3 years of development for us to understand your skillsets and capabilities. Our work will be accessed by a wide range of organisations so the level we are looking for may not suit inexperienced illustrators or animators. However, a portfolio speaks louder in arts so do apply if you have skills.  The qualities we are looking for are your interest in humanitarian work and enthusiasm for what we do as an organisation. Interest or experience in using arts for social transformation is a plus. Any past involvement in narrative, storytelling is also very beneficial. But above all, being proactive and chipping in when you can.

What difference will you make?

Our work involves bringing the most salient academic findings in human identity research to grass roots organisations working in community development, conflict transformation, education, health and other sectors. Over the last 20 years, we've found that identity and academic output around this topic are very 'meta' and require translating it to everyday languages and case studies to illustrate its power over us. Your contribution through visual communication could enable many more people to access this knowledge in a meaningful way and improve their personal wellbeing, social community cohesion and organisational culture building. Depending on your experience, there maybe some interesting further work you could get involved in as we begin to deploy identity based analysis and communication strategies in more sectors.
