What will you be doing?

If you can motivate others, encourage discussion and balance a variety of views then you would be an ideal chairperson for the 28th. With experience of steering meetings to produce excellent decisions, you’ll be equally willing to speak your mind as encouraging others to express their views. You will use your strong communication skills to help our team of committed adult volunteers who make up the Trustee Board arrive at good decisions that will benefit young people. Able to work as part of a team, you will also contribute to the direction and development of the Group. No previous experience of Scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values. We will provide all appropriate training and ongoing support. Our Trustee Board works together closely, and are collectively responsible for:

Managing finance and risks Ensuring compliance with relevant requirements Overseeing data, safety, and safeguarding practices Ensuring the group is well-led Ensuring effective charity governance

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a volunteer who can work closely with others, developing the 28th in accordance with the Policies, Organisation, and Rule of The Scouts. Our next Group Chair should be able to demonstrate:

Good communication and team management skills Administrative and meeting management skills Ability to motivate and enthuse others Initiative

No experience of scouting is necessary, we provide the training and ongoing support.

What difference will you make?

The Chair of our Board of Trustees is a key role at our Group. You will support and shape our work and strategy, helping us to deliver more young people with skills for life. From ensuring our activities and premises are safe, to maximising the impact we have on the lives of young people, our Board of Trustees are at the heart of our success. Now is an exciting time to volunteer with Scouts. We're changing how we volunteer to embrace a team-based approach. As Chair, your leadership will ensure the 28th is providing amazing opportunities to young people now, and can continue to do so for years to come. The best bit? Not only is volunteering with us good for young people and our community, it's good for you. Volunteering can be a brilliant way to boost your mental wellbeing. It’s a great feeling knowing you’re helping young people get skills for life, and you might even learn a lot about yourself along the way.
